mWISE Conference 2024: Your front-row seat to the future of cybersecurity

Now in its third year, mWISE is purposefully designed by the security community for the security community. During the two-day, vendor-agnostic event, attendees will share knowledge, learn from firsthand experiences, and see the latest battle-tested solutions that are helping organizations to defend against impactful threats.

• Kevin Mandia: The conference kicks off with day one remarks from Kevin Mandia, Google Cloud strategic security advisor. Attendees will gain a strategic overview of the current threat landscape and the key defenses organizations must implement to safeguard their most vital assets.

• Jen Easterly: What are the top concerns of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency? Jen Easterly, director, CISA, takes the stage on day two to share her thoughts on today’s top cybersecurity issues.

• Ransomware: Cyber’s evolving cash cow: The profitability of ransomware continues to drive groups and their affiliates to ramp up operations, and further invest in their businesses. Cybercrime experts Brett Callow, FTI Consulting, Kimberly Goody, Mandiant, and Allan Liska, Recorded Future, discuss the latest ransomware stats and trends, including increasingly aggressive extortion attempts, and how organizations can more effectively prepare for and respond to threats. The panel will be moderated by Kim Zetter, cybersecurity and national security journalist.

• Countering sophisticated threats: Insights from the frontlines: Charles Carmakal, CTO, Mandiant Consulting, engages in a mainstage discussion with battle-tested business leaders who have led their organizations through high-profile cybersecurity events. Get a comprehensive look at the evolving landscape of cybersecurity leadership, offering practical takeaways for professionals at all levels.

• John Hultquist: In today's threat landscape, leaders must use dynamic, frontline intelligence to anticipate evolving adversaries. In a fireside discussion, John Hultquist, chief analyst, Mandiant Intelligence, explores the latest front line insights and what to do about the most critical threats.

• How will we know when AI becomes truly intelligent? David Eagleman, neuroscientist and author, explores what it will take for artificial intelligence to reach or exceed a human level of intelligence, and how we could know when it gets there.

Big sessions: Go deep on today’s important cybersecurity issues

This year’s mWISE features more than 70 sessions presented across nine tracks, including Cloud Security, Threat Intelligence, the Intersection of AI and Cybersecurity, Next Gen CISO, Security Engineering, Security Operations, Security Threats and Exploits. To whet your appetite, we’ve selected a few sessions to highlight here:

• How generative AI is shifting the defender landscape: Google Cloud Security leaders Steph Hay and Umesh Shankar surface insights from conversations with CISOs, the latest Mandiant research, and Google DeepMind innovations to elucidate macro trends seen at the intersection of security and AI, and what they mean for your organization.

• From job interview to crypto heist: How a North Korea-sponsored threat actor stole cryptocurrencies: The first step to an insider cryptocurrency heist is passing a job interview. Hear Yi Han Ang and Sun Pu, Mandiant Senior Consultants, expose a sophisticated cyber-espionage campaign orchestrated by a North Korean threat actor targeting a cryptocurrency company. They also plan to discuss the importance of implementing comprehensive security measures in the cloud to mitigate the risk of similar attacks.

• Secure remote identity verification in the era of generative AI: To combat deepfake attacks, science-based biometrics-as-a-service can enable remote identification for customers and workforce that is reliable, easy to administer, and almost effortless to use. In this talk, Andrew Bud, CEO and founder of iProov, explores challenges to enabling remote identity across the enterprise and shares best practices from customers.

• Lessons learned from the summer of supply-chain attacks: There were a record-breaking number of supply chain attacks in the summer of 2023. Erin Joe (Google Cloud Office of the CISO), Lyn Brown and Megan Brown (Wiley Rein) and Jennifer Burnside (Crisis Communications for Google Cloud Security) will share lessons learned, discuss emerging trends, and address key issues like legal exposure, cyber reporting, and handling threats to company officials or their families. 

• Build a high-value quantitative risk management program on a budget: Learn how to communicate and report risk from the boardroom to the security team room, with this programmatic guide to implementing quantitative risk management from ID.me’sTim Anderson and Matthew Harding. They’ll cover implementation and operation of quantitative program design through people, process, and technology.

• The cloud security paradox: Secure cloud, insecure use: Cloud providers invest heavily in security, largely exceeding what most organizations can achieve on their own. Yet headlines scream of cloud breaches and leaks. What gives? The truth is that cloud security isn’t merely a shared responsibility — it’s a shared opportunity. In this talk, Google Cloud’s Anton Chuvakin delves into this sometimes-confounding paradox.
