Our Product Managers (PMs) are curious at their core, and often take inspiration from daily life to test out on our products. Question for all of the PMs out there: Have you ever created an experiment or shipped a feature based on something that inspired you from daily life? 🤔 #duolingo #productmanagement
Product managers know that inspiration can come from anywhere in your daily life. I can’t tell you how many tiny moments in my day have inspired something we test on Duolingo. Here’s an example… I have a trainer, and at the end of one of our sessions he asked: “Am I going to see you tomorrow?” That nudge really clicked with me. I sent the idea over to a few of our PMs to test that kind of message on our “streak nudge” screen (which happens after you do a lesson that extends your streak). The copy we tested encouraged users to “come back tomorrow” and keep their streak. The simple change was a success—with a 3% increase in day 14 retention for new users and a significant increase DAUs 🔥🔥🔥 This was such a fun win for us, and our PMs make these kinds of connections every day. We love social clubs. A lot. We have 147 different social clubs at Duolingo, organized by Duos (employees) around a specific activity or interest. Our clubs are important to us because they make sure that every Duo has at least one meaningful Duolingo connection. Our Duos can spend up to $100 per month on these activities. Here are a few pictures from our social clubs. Which ones would you want to join? 💅 Club nails did: We get our nails done together and share nail art inspo! 🥯 Club bagelingo: We eat bagels on the first Thursday of every month from different locations! 🧗🏽 Club climbing: We will climb the rocks (aka bouldering)! 🎨 Club crafting: Whether we knit, spin, sew, sculpt, or paper mache, we all love to craft awesome things. We craft together. 📚 Club book: We read books each month and discuss over lunch. We choose books democratically based on member submission and voting. 🎮 Club games: We play board games (and video games) on Thursday nights! With pizza! 🍷 Club wine: We drink wine, talk about wine, play trivia about wine, do wine tastings, wine, more wine, and also wine! 🦪 Club oyster: We go to happy hour and eat oysters. We shall not rest until we have eaten them all. 🐂 Club let’s do new stuff: A club for doing new things! Never rode a horse or shot an arrow? Always wanted to go to hotpot or try the Hot Ones challenge? Let's do it together! The first event will be electric bull riding.
