Worldwide.   🔋 The latest example: Together with our partner XPENG, Volkswagen Group China is developing an all-new electronics architecture to be ready in 2026 for all our locally produced #VW electric cars. It’s the next milestone for what we call our “in China for China” strategy.   🚗 The “China Electronic Architecture” (CEA) plays a decisive role in the digitalization of our cars, streamlining them to specific customer needs and massive innovation speed in the world’s biggest automarket. As the control center is overseeing all essential electronic functions, it is also the digital link to all basic components such as the powertrain and chassis. The new architecture will be a key pacemaker for us on our way to becoming a leading manufacturer of intelligent, fully networked electric vehicles in China. It is being developed by Volkswagen Group China Technology Company (VCTC) and CARIAD China in cooperation with XPENG, with the Master agreement signed today. CARIAD China will play a key role in the project by also contributing the latest technologies such as state-of-the-art autonomous driving systems (ADAS) and smart cockpit functions.   What’s the logic behind? This new approach reduces complexity and control units in the car, increases cost efficiency and accelerates the expansion of our model portfolio in China. Most importantly our Chinese customers will benefit, because the CEA will make it easier to install updates wirelessly “over the air”.     🇨🇳 CARIAD China & XPENG co-develop the new China Electronic Architecture! The jointly developed zonal electric/electronic architecture will be used in locally produced all-electric vehicles of Volkswagen in China from 2026 on and will turn them into software-defined vehicles. 💬 "With the CEA, we are making a decisive step forward towards the Software Defined Vehicle. We are teaming up our development teams with XPeng colleagues to co-create a leading tech stack in the industry for the specific requirements of Volkswagen customers", says #CARIAD CEO Peter Bosch. In new vehicles with CEA technology, three very powerful central computers will take control over electronic functions, leading to a 30% reduction in the number of ECUs and significantly reduced costs and system complexity, while at the same time increasing performance and safety. Thanks to the efficient structure and high computing power of the new architecture, even complex applications such as autonomous driving functions can be integrated significantly quicker and easier. Software updates for the system can also be developed and installed on customer vehicles much more efficiently as updates can be implemented across zones rather than individual ECUs.
