We are thrilled to have made significant strides in reducing the environmental impact of our plastic packaging materials, but must stress the importance of not judging a bag by its color - especially recycled ones! 🛍️ ♻️ Committed to reducing the environmental impact of our plastic packaging materials, we recently introduced recycled plastics in our packaging materials across several markets. However, with this rollout, we must compromise on aesthetics. As the bags are recycled, the color will with time become more gray/green. 🤝 Most importantly, the color of the bags does not affect the top-quality fertilizer inside. This is a tradeoff we are willing to accept to reduce the environmental impact of our plastic packaging materials. After all, it’s the inside that counts. ✨ Fostering a Brighter Future for African Farming and Food Systems ✨ Last week, Yara Africa & Asia (YAA) met with the Prime Minister of Rwanda, PM Dr Édouard Ngirente, and other high-level government leaders from Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda at the AFS Forum's partners sessions. 🌍 These bilateral meetings provided a platform to discuss crucial topics, explore untapped markets like Ethiopia and Burkina Faso, and create awareness about business opportunities and risks in Africa. Together with our Government Relations & Public Affairs team, important dialogues such as advancing the Soil Health agenda in Africa were delved into. 🌱 The meeting with the Rwanda Prime Minister was a key highlight, as he demonstrated a strong interest in collaborating to improve smallholder farmers' livelihoods in Rwanda. 👨🏼🌾👩🏽🌾 Building on the participation in #AFSForum2024, where Yara’s contributions to Growing a Nature-Positive Food Future in Africa were shared, YAA is committed to driving innovative and practical actions to impact the African food systems. ✨The winners of this year's GoGettaz Africa Agripreneur Prize Competition have been announced!✨ 🎤 Out of nearly 2,000 applications, 12 finalists participated in the AFS Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, where they pitched their businesses, talked with peers, and met with potential investors and partners. 🏆 The winners FATIMA EL KHOU, founder and Head of Research and Innovation at Jafife, and Dr. Iddi Mohammed Faried, co-founder and CEO of KODU TECHNOLOGY, were both awarded with USD $50,000 and invaluable recognition, networking and support. Jafife uses digitalized solar dryers to transform crops and seafood into long-lasting dried food products and natural dyes, whereas Kodu Technology creates eco-friendly sanitary pads from agricultural waste like banana and plantain fibres. DR Mattison Farms in KwaZulu-Natal is transforming macadamia farming by embracing regenerative agriculture. In partnership with Yara, the farm is improving soil health, boosting biodiversity, and ensuring long-term productivity. 🌰   In 2022, the farm adopted YaraRega™, a fertigation solution that increased crop yields by 35%, improved root health, and lowered soil salt levels, resulting in healthier macadamia trees.
