bought as a joint present for my wife and daughter. wife likes hot foamy milk in her coffee and daughter loves hot chocolate - win win! I have bought chocolate for this, but a cheese grater and a big bar of your favourite chocolate works even better!! in fact, LIDL sell these little bars of milk chocolate that are 40g and they are perfect and taste great!!
The quality of this velvetiser is indisputable! as soon as you have it in your hands you know you made the right decision over that other brands that you looked at! thats what happened with me. I think this thing will last for many years. thats 5 months now and this has been used almost every day, no problem!

I had considered buying myself a velvetiser but thought the marketing may be better than the product itself so decided against it but I then received one as a gift from my husband as I hadn’t voiced my concerns to him. I feel I am vindicated in my suspicions. The chocolate doesn’t always completely melt. Of the two drinks I’ve tried the 70% drink leaves gritty bits in the bottom and the salted caramel had chocolate floating on the top. For my taste the drink isn’t quite hot enough and there is insufficient froth. I can make better hot chocolate on the hob with a saucepan and balloon whisk, yes for a single cup it does take a little longer but if making more than one cup it works out quicker with a better result. I also note the price on Amazon is more than from the Hotel Chocolate website.

The sachets for this maker are incredibly expensive, but the chocolate does taste good. However one day just a few months in my unit was suddenly dead and couldn't be powered on. Hotel Chocolat insisted on a video of it now working to honour the warranty (beyond ridiculous!). Went though the hassle of sending them a video and they sent a replacement unit. 3 months on that replacement unit is suddenly dead too. Clearly there is a quality control issue or a real defect with this machine, which at the asking price is unforgivable. I cannot be bothered to jump through all the hoops again to get yet another replacement and will just junk it. I would not advise anybody to buy this unit based on my very poor experiences.
