EU-regels voor gegevensbescherming

De strengere regels voor gegevensbescherming geven mensen meer zeggenschap over hun persoonsgegevens en zorgen ervoor dat alle bedrijven zich aan dezelfde regels moeten houden.

Achtergrond

Sinds de inwerkingtreding van de algemene verordening gegevensbescherming in mei 2018 gelden voor alle bedrijven die in de EU actief zijn, ongeacht waar zij gevestigd zijn, dezelfde regels voor gegevensbescherming.

Deze strengere regels voor gegevensbescherming houden in dat:

  • mensen meer zeggenschap hebben over hun persoonsgegevens
  • alle bedrijven zich aan dezelfde regels moeten houden

In juni 2020 heeft de Europese Commissie een evaluatieverslag over de algemene verordening gegevensbescherming (AVG) gepubliceerd.

AVG – een succesverhaal

Twee jaar na de inwerkingtreding van de AVG is de verordening over de hele lijn een succes gebleken.

Background

As of May 2018, with the entry into application of the General Data Protection Regulation, there is one set of data protection rules for all companies operating in the EU, wherever they are based.

Stronger rules on data protection mean

  • people have more control over their personal data
  • businesses benefit from a level playing field

In June 2020, the European Commission published an evaluation report on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
