Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer: Marvel Previews R-Rated Comic Epic
Deadpool & Wolverine (Marvel)

Marvel has unveiled a new trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, its upcoming R-rated comic book epic starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as our titular, foul-mouthed heroes. The trailer is soundtracked by Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” and full of F-bombs — including this summer’s superhero catchphrase, “LFG.”

Directed by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things), the film finds Deadpool (Reynolds) teaming up with Wolverine (Jackman) — but not the Wolverine we’ve seen in past X-films. No, this one has apparently let his entire world down, which feels like a nod to the classic comics storyline Old Man Logan. And that beloved story gets referenced elsewhere in the trailer when it’s revealed that someone (Emma Corrin’s big bad Cassandra Nova?) is using a giant, dead Ant-Man as a base.

The shot of Ant-Man’s helmet opening also reveals appearances from Lady Deathstrike (Kelly Hu in X2: X-Men United) and Azazel (Jason Flemyng in X-Men: First Class), plus a peak at Aaron Stanford’s return as Pyro. We’re also shown the lovable Dogpool, but the biggest tease of all may be a final shot the includes… is that a Doctor Strange portal?

(As for other Easter Eggs, Deadpool fanatics will understand why “Liefeld’s Just Feet” store is the best joke ever made in a Marvel movie.)

Set to hit theaters on July 26th, 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine also stars Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, and Matthew Macfadyen, with rumors of cameos from other 21st Century Fox Marvel characters including Jennifer Garner as Elektra. It marks the 34th title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first Deadpool film released since Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019 (which brought the X-Men and several other Marvel characters back to the MCU).

It also marks the first time Jackman has portrayed Wolverine since 2017’s Logan, which had been billed as his character’s swan song.
