Salers Apéritif, Suze (Saveur D'Autrefois), Cascadia American Bitter Liqueur, St. George Bruto Americano, Michelberger Forest Herbal Liqueur, Bonal Gentiane-Quina, Walcher Aperitivo Rondó Spritz, and Bittermens Amère Sauvage. Bigallet China-China, Nonino L'Aperitivo, and Cocchi Americano also contain gentian, but are probably lessideal for the gentian component in this recipe. Hope this helps!
Can you suggest some gentian liqueurs?
Suze.

1/2 oz aperol according to the recipe in the NYT magazine.
Where is the Aperol? Not in ingredient list. Still, very nice article and lovely photos.
1/2 ounce Aperol. Apologies for that omission — the Aperol should be showing in the ingredients list now.
I think it appeared in a later online iteration of the recipe. On that note, is Forthave Spirits Red Aperitivo an acceptable substitute for Aperol in this recipe?
