Preparation

  1. Step 1

To cook brown rice quickly, soak it in the water for 2 hours or longer in advance. It can be put to soak the night before or in the morning.

  2. Step 2

Bring the rice and the soaking water, with salt and pepper to taste, to a boil; reduce heat; cover and simmer for 20 minutes, or until water has evaporated and rice is fluffy.

  3. Step 3

If rice is not presoaked, it will take 40 to 45 minutes to cook.

This worked well for brown basmati rice, which is long grain. Does anyone know if it works as well for short grain brown rice?

This is a fail safe method for tender brown rice. Just before starting the cooking process I add a variety of spices, depending on my mood, and 1T. of catsup.
