Jacob Anderson has fangs! Game of Thrones alumn cast as Louis in Interview with the Vampire TV series

We have some exciting news about not only Jacob Anderson but the Interview with the Vampire series as well. Why? According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s been cast as the lead in the upcoming AMC vampire drama. Everyone say hello to Louis de Pointe du Lac.

The series will follow Louis as he’s dragged (somewhat unwillingly) into the dark life of vampires, thanks to his maker Lestat de Lioncourt (who will be played by Sam Reid). The eight-episode series was ordered in June of this year and will be released sometime in 2022. It is currently planning to release on both the AMC network and streaming service.

For those who haven’t read the books or watched the movie adaptation from 1994, Interview with the Vampire focuses on Louis, a vampire created in the 1700s, as he tells his entire life story to a reporter – from his turning into a vampire, his part in creating a child vampire, and his endless search to find meaning and purpose in his 200 years of (undead) life. The previous iteration of the character was played by Brad Pitt, who gave a very brooding performance as the long-suffering vampire.

Jacob Anderson has been cast as Louis de Pointe du Lac.

I am pretty excited about this casting. While I’ve really only seen Anderson’s work as Grey Worm in Game of Thrones, I’m glad a man of color has been cast. It’s going to be really interesting to see if they change that character’s existing background of being a plantation owner into something entirely different in response to this casting choice. While I really enjoyed Pitt’s take on the character, I’m ready for more Louis. He doesn’t have much of a presence in author Anne Rice’s later books, so we’ll see if the show will carry him over into other stories in a prominent role.

Now with our Louis and Lestat officially cast, it’s only a matter of time before we hear who will be playing the vampire child Claudia. A young Kirsten Dunst completely nailed the role of the vampire stuck in a child’s body – so it will be fun to see if another young star can take that on. I digress.

Louis was one of my favorite characters in the Vampire Chronicles books. He was this shadow in the corner, a constant reminder of the person behind the vampire’s meals. Somehow over 200 years, he still retained his humanity. Sure he can be as brooding as the rest of them, but his heart is what sets him apart from all the other vampires in his orbit. I’m very much looking forward to seeing Jacob Anderson embody this.
