‘Aquarium’ tells the story of a lionfish who lives inside a fish tank of an aquarium. A microcosm is opened up through sounds and music so we can all give a closer listen to its routine as it unravels within its confinement: repetition, cohabitation, competition, survival and reflection.

What do we hear? How can our hero survive and keep up with the life inside the fish tank after a magnetic and imposing jellyfish called Medusa makes its appearance? Medusa dances and hypnotises all the fish and is a glowing underwater symbol of water pollution, of the degradation of marine life due to climate change and of human presence.

The musical tableau inside “Aquarium” draws from a variety of influences including Greek kid’s tv shows from the 80s and early 90s as well as more contemporary influences often encountered in the sound of Dalot leaning towards more minimalist, electronic and experimental sounds.

The music featured in the album is an adaptation of the original soundtrack composed for the dance performance for children titled “Aquarium” by Caterini Dinopoulou commissioned by the Municipality of Chania and KEPPEDIH-KAM presented as part of the “Open Sails” Festival 2021.

Η Dalot παρουσιάζει το νέο της album, “Aquarium”, που θα κυκλοφορήσει σε LP και Digital Album στις 17 Ιουνίου από την Same Difference Music, με διανομή της Inner Ear.

Το «Aquarium» αφηγείται την ιστορία ενός λεοντόψαρου που ζει μέσα σε μια δεξαμενή ενός ενυδρείου. Ένας μικρόκοσμος ξεδιπλώνεται μέσα από τους ήχους και τη μουσική, και αφουγκραζόμαστε τη ρουτίνα του ψαριού καθώς ξετυλίγεται μέσα στον περιορισμό του ενυδρείου: επανάληψη, συμβίωση, ανταγωνισμός, επιβίωση και προβληματισμός.

Τι ακούμε; Πώς μπορεί ο ήρωάς μας να επιβιώσει και να συμβαδίσει μέσα στη δεξαμενή μετά την εμφάνιση της μαγνητικής και επιβλητικής Μέδουσας; Η Μέδουσα χορεύει και υπνωτίζει όλα τα ψάρια και είναι ένα λαμπερό υποβρύχιο σύμβολο της ρύπανσης των υδάτων, της υποβάθμισης της θαλάσσιας ζωής λόγω της κλιματικής αλλαγής, αλλά και της παρουσίας του ανθρώπινου παράγοντα.

Το μουσικό ταμπλό μέσα στο "Aquarium" αντλεί από ποικίλες επιρροές, συμπεριλαμβανομένων ελληνικών παιδικών τηλεοπτικών εκπομπών από τις δεκαετίες του '80 και των αρχών της δεκαετίας του '90, καθώς και πιο σύγχρονες επιρροές που συναντώνται συχνά στη μουσική της Dalot, που κλίνει προς πιο μινιμαλιστικούς, ηλεκτρονικούς και πειραματικούς ήχους.

Η μουσική του άλμπουμ αποτελεί διασκευή του πρωτότυπου soundtrack για την ομότιτλη παράσταση χορού και νέων μέσων για παιδιά, “Aquarium”, της Κατερίνας Ντινοπούλου, κατόπιν ανάθεσης του Δήμου Χανίων και του ΚΕΠΠΕΔΗ-ΚΑΜ στα πλαίσια του Φεστιβάλ «Ανοιχτά Πανιά» 2021.
