The BMW Startup Garage is the Venture Client unit of the BMW Group. Our goal is to foster innovation speed and quality - through the help from startups - at all BMW Group Divisions. As a Venture Client, the BMW Group becomes the early adopter client of a startup, even if its product, service or technology is still on a prototype stage. The BMW Startup Garage program is a great opportunity for startups to gain the BMW Group as its client by conducting a paid proof of concept project directly with the business unit that benefits from the startup's innovation. In addition to working directly with a business unit, we network startups with key BMW decision makers. We look for startups that have cutting edge solutions for any BMW Group division: automotive, mobility services, manufacturing, IT, sales & marketing and HR. Who doesn't want to know the success recipe for a visionary partnership with BMW Group? That's why we were at the MUNICH STARTUP Festival 2024 to share it with the ecosystem. Tune into Jia-Yi Melanie Tang-Melanie Tang's key takeaways from the lively dialogue with DeepDrive to learn more about our shared collaboration journey.
Being visible Last Wednesday, I had the honor of taking the stage at the Munich Startup Festival 2024 together with Felix Poernbacher from DeepDrive. During our talk about the partnership between DeepDrive and the BMW Startup Garage, Felix shared his learnings and tips for successful collaboration between a startup and a corporate giant like the BMW Group. The BMW Startup Garage, BMW’s venture client unit, with its agile, fast, and streamlined processes, played a key role in this. A key term from Felix was the "vice-like grip" - the ability to convince both the on-the-ground experts as well as the top management to get excited about your offering. This, Felix said, is a crucial key to success. While BMW advocates "thinking like a startup," Felix also advised all startup founders: "Don't be a startup!" No large corporation will sign a longterm contract with a startup. A certain size, maturity, stable processes, and certifications are essential to be perceived as a serious partner. We used our appearance to publicly present our latest success story "BMW Startup Garage Chronicles: Deep Drive" for the first time - a true goosebump moment! You can find the link in the comments and I hope, you like it. Tijen Onaran's opening speech was also inspiring: Whether you like it or not, you are already visible and have a perceived image. It's better to think about how you want to position yourself and be seen. Don't be afraid to have an opinion, stand up for it, and discuss it. That's the only way to truly make an impact. Overall, it was a highly successful event full of valuable insights and I very much enjoyed being visible on stage. 😊 I'm already looking forward to the Munich Startup Festival 2025! #MunichStartupFestival #SuccessStory #Collaboration #Visibility
