How do you get young people excited about logistics? 🌍️ We deal with this question every day at EgeTrans. We are convinced that the only way to get young people interested in logistics is to use practical examples to show them that our lives would not be the same without global trade. But how do we reach young people? One way is through educational partnerships. In mid-June, we were able to make our long-standing cooperation with Friedrich Schiller Gymnasium (FSG) in Marbach official and are now an educational partner of the largest secondary school in Baden-Württemberg. Of course, a partnership needs to be filled with life. Two days after signing the partnership agreement, we gave some FSG students an insight into the world of work at our Marbach headquarters as part of a company tour. After a joint breakfast, a company presentation was on the agenda. During a logistics simulation game, the students were able to get to know the versatility of a supply chain. A tour of the building on the banks of the Neckar also provided an insight into the day-to-day work of a logistics service provider. Further measures are already being planned. 🎉⚽️ Europe fever after work at EgeTrans! ⚽️🎉 The third match day of the European Championship 2024 brought with it a special after-work atmosphere. Together, we watched the German national team's second group match against Hungary live. 🇩🇪🇭🇺🙌 Our ATR/UM was quickly transformed into a cosy public viewing zone, offering a perfect view of the exciting match. Cool drinks and delicious pizzas kept our staff refreshed. As always, the event was a great get-together that encouraged cross-departmental interaction. A great evening for all! Freight documents are being rejected: The reason? Inaccurate freight descriptions. The efficiency of global trade depends largely on accurate and clear freight descriptions. On 1 April 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) implemented the nationwide mailing of cargo notices regarding inaccurate product descriptions through the ACE Cargo Release system. The purpose is to communicate with those responsible for shipments whose cargo descriptions are inaccurate. This applies to freight forwarders and other parties that submit electronic cargo data to CBP. Importers are encouraged to review the reports carefully and work with the shipper and bill of lading issuer to avoid problems with future shipments. Vague descriptions such as "accessories" or "parts" will no longer be accepted. Agents and freight forwarders who issue their own waybills will be required to check the information for compliance with the freight declaration rules. The aim is to ensure that freight descriptions on commercial invoices clearly state what the freight is. The challenge was that the robots contained batteries classified as hazardous materials. Our import department promptly grappled with the complex customs regulations and requirements of the innovative product. After work on ice 🏒 For the first time, an after-work event did not take place at our headquarters in Marbach, instead it was hosted in Bietigheim. But it was not unknown territory for us, as the event took place in the EgeTrans Arena. Almost 50 employees joined this great evening and looked behind the scenes of our partner Bietigheim Steelers. The Steelers (CEO Gregor Rustige and President Christoph Heinzmann), gave us exclusive insights of the hockey club. We also had the opportunity to try out ice skating, curling and shooting practice with the Steelers professionals. The evening ended with a get-together with some food and drinks. 🚢 Impact on Global Trade: Red Sea Trade Route Disrupted Since the conflict outbreak between Israel and Hamas in October 2023, Houthi rebels have targeted and even hijacked container ships in the Red Sea. To safeguard this vital route, the US, UK, and EU have initiated military actions against Houthi bases in Yemen. The repeated attacks are significantly impacting international shipping, with appr. 12% of global trade passing through the Red Sea. To mitigate risks, many shipping lines are rerouting their container ships, opting for a longer journey around South Africa. This strategic shift adds ten to twelve days to transit times, increases transportation costs, and escalates sea freight rates. The acute threat has prompted cargo insurers to exclude the Red Sea from risk coverage, urging clients to avoid transportation through this region. International container shipping lines are navigating around the Red Sea, but with a caveat for potential route changes in exceptional cases. 👉 In response to the current situation, we have exclusively partnered with shipping lines that have adjusted their route planning, choosing the detour around the Cape of Good Hope. This decision prioritizes the safety of cargo, regardless of individual cargo insurers' risk cover in the Red Sea. While our partnered shipping lines confirm a general avoidance of the Red Sea, we acknowledge the possibility of short-notice route changes beyond our control. As an international freight forwarder, we cannot guarantee the complete bypassing of the Red Sea but assure you that we are closely monitoring the situation.
