    Psychometric assessments are often used to assess a candidate’s suitability for a management position. Despite this, they are not uncontroversial. A frequent point of critique is their validity not being sufficiently proven through empirical studies.   Not all assessments are the same, though. There are significant differences between the methods they use, both in terms of their scientific basis as well as the individual factors analysed.   How can the wheat be separated from the chaff? Reliable statements about a candidate’s leadership readiness can only be made if the most suitable assessments are identified (while taking into account the specific situation) and combined in a meaningful way. Important aspects to monitor are: -      the topicality of the assessment -      possible distortions due to translations and cultural differences -      generalisations and oversimplifications -      black-and-white thinking -      etc. The Executive Insights whitepaper "Hired by Skills, Fired for Attitude!
