Yesterday, #ESMC- TSMC's joint venture with Bosch, Infineon Technologies, and NXP Semiconductors - held a groundbreaking ceremony to officially mark the initial phase of land preparation for its first semiconductor fab in #Dresden, #Saxony #Germany. The event brought together government officials, customers, suppliers, business partners, and academia, to celebrate a milestone in the establishment of the EU's first-ever FinFET-capable pure-play foundry. Distinguished guests included president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Saxony Minister President Michael Kretschmer and Lord Mayor of Dresden, Dirk Hilbert. In a demonstration of dedicated support, during the event, President von der Leyen announced that the European Commission has approved, under EU State aid rules, a €5 billion German measure to support ESMC in the construction and operation of the semiconductor fab. Currently, we see a lot in (social) media about unfilled apprenticeships at various German companies, even those that are well-known and previously didn't have to worry much about this. At the same time, there are still many young people searching for the right apprenticeship. At esmo, we are in a very fortunate position: Just like in previous years, all five apprenticeship spots have been filled since March! In early September, two industrial mechanics, two mechatronics, and one technical productdesigner will start their apprenticeships with us at esmo. Why are we still able to fill our apprenticeship positions in time? There are likely several reasons for this. Firstly, our team of trainers, who engage with the youth, understand their needs, and provide individual support where possible. Secondly, no apprentice starts at esmo without first completing an internship with us. This way, not only do we get to know our future esmo talent, but the apprentices themselves also get an early insight into what to expect, how things work at esmo, and what their daily life during the apprenticeship might look like. Finally, our IHK scouts shouldn't be forgotten: these are apprentices in their second and third year of training who regularly visit schools and attend fairs in the Rosenheim region throughout the school year to introduce esmo's apprenticeship programs and spark interest among potential new apprentices. The apprenticeship itself, the promotion, the supervision, etc., of course, are not free for esmo. And we’re not just talking about the mid-six-figure amount that we gladly invest each year – that's a given for us! For a good and sustainable apprenticeship program, we believe it primarily requires: + trainers who go above and beyond the normal duties and provide intensive support to the youth for more than three years, + the commitment of all employees to support esmo's future talent to the best of their ability, and + last but not least: the willingness of the management and the entire leadership team to take the apprenticeship seriously and promote it in the long term. For this, we as a company receive a lot in return: highly trained skilled employees with whom we can shape the future. This is the only way the system can continue to work. Skilled workers are in short supply in the long run, we are already noticing this – even though we are actively and continuously training! Without our own former apprentices, some of whom have been with us for decades, the situation would be much worse. Our conclusion: Apprenticeship and commitment to the next generation pays off in the long term. A big thank you to our trainers and all colleagues who go the extra mile here. And last but not least, of course, to our apprentices who chose esmo for their career start. Supporting a Good Cause! Three students of Dientzenhofer Secondary School Brannenburg participated in the charity run organized to support the flood victims in our region. These young athletes ran an impressive total of 47 km as a team. With additional contributions, we proudly donated 300 EUR to aid those affected by the recent flood events. This initiative highlights the strength and solidarity of our community in the region and demonstrates the impact we can achieve when we come together for a good cause. Successful Exchange with Students from TH Rosenheim: In June, we welcomed 15 aspiring industrial engineers to our headquarters in Rosenheim. Accompanied by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Doleschel, the students gained insights into our assembly and manufacturing processes, including our in-house milling shop and various production lines. The detailed presentations on docking and interface solutions, as well as on handling systems for automated microchip engineering testing procedures, highlighted our innovative approaches. The close integration and collaboration across various departments at esmo were particularly impressive to our visitors. The event was a great success, and we look forward to continuing our fruitful cooperation with TH Rosenheim. On Sunday, June 30, 2024, a dedicated team of 13 colleagues from esmo participated in this year's Rosenheim Cycling Marathon. The road cyclists took on the challenging 131 km route with 1,990 meters of elevation, while our MTB and gravel group tackled a 67 km tour through fields, forests, and meadows, covering 950 meters of elevation. Starting from the WEKO parking garage, the groups quickly diverged, with the road cyclists staying on paved roads and the MTB and gravel riders exploring various terrains. Throughout the journey, there were multiple opportunities for rest and recovery, which our teams appreciated. After several hours, all participants safely reached the finish line – tired but proud of their achievements. We commend our colleagues for their remarkable performance and dedication! esmo is pleased to support such activities, as we do with the annual dragon boat races and the Rosenheim City Run, by providing jerseys and covering the registration fees for those who wish to participate. #TeamEsmo #BeInMotion #CyclingMarathon #Rosenheim
