In 2000, Harpreet co-founded a venture after his PhD. Now, Immatics is one of the 15 most valuable European biotechs. Great to meet him in person for the first time and to record an episode while I was in Munich 🇩🇪 We talked about the field of PRAME receptors, TCR therapeutics and Cell Therapy at large. We also spoke about the combination with mRNA therapeutics and his upbringing in a Sikh family in Germany. Full episode will be online first week of September ⏰

"What is important for creating an entrepreneurial culture in the lab is open-mindedness!" In this new short, Jens Nielsen shares his secret recipe based on building one of the most entrepreneurial bio labs in Europe for 20+ years. Some key points: 🔬Most of the key findings in biotech have come out from academia, but you have to be open to find the applications. 👨👩👧👦 The best way to encourage an entrepreneurial mindset is to illustrate how to do it and get other role models in the lab. 🇺🇸 Boston is the best environment in the world for life sciences academia and innovation. It’s an inspiration for labs around the world, including his lab. I agree 💯 and think Europe needs (way) more entrepreneurial mindset in academia. New episode from Munich 🇩🇪: here’s my conversation with Dominik Schumacher of Tubulis GmbH, best founders under 40 🚀 Gain insights from a “true” biotech founder, one of the only founder-PhDs under 40 that have scaled to raise over 100M. “There’s a lot of ADC development happening [in China] and the quality is really good. It’s competition that we look at seriously and take seriously.” We talked about building a champion ADC biotech, took a deep dive into the ADC sphere, and the difference between luck and success. Here’s a teaser to a new episode with one of the top female VCs in Europe: Christina Takke from V-Bio Ventures. Be inspired by her path to get to the top and the benefits of gender diversity for both investing and European biotech as a whole. “When you have different views you start a discussion with each other, you look at investment opportunities from different angles.” We also talk about her investment in Argenx when it was only three employees and the venture creation drop since 2022. "I will not take people's money unless I have to." Here's a short clip from our chat with Johannes Fruehauf of BioLabs. Pulling from his own experience, he shares some counterintuitive advice for biotech startups looking to raise money. "It's not a bad thing to take other partners into your business to provide capital as long as you have a good arrangement." Do you agree with him? Here’s a teaser to the first open-air episode from San Sebastián 🇪🇸 with Naveed Siddiqi of one of the world’s largest biotech investors (Novo Holdings). Discover what things are really like in European biotech at the moment. “Multiple billion $ companies and multiple billion $ exits, we need more of that in Europe, and that needs scale capital.” We also talked about his upbringing as a second-generation immigrant in the UK and the importance of diversity. I’ve known him since he was a partner at Andera. He is a sharp investor, but also very friendly and open.
