Thanks to the Audit Committee for the great feedback! 🙏 From September 9 to 11, 2024, ZMT had its intermittent audit and received very valuable and constructive feedback from a great committee of experts: The audit committee was made up of members of the International Scientific Advisory Board (IWB) Prof. Dr. Martin Visbeck (GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel), Prof. Dr. Catherine Lovelock (The University of Queensland), Prof. Dr. Bernhard Riegl (Nova Southeastern University) and Prof. Dr. Maarten Bavinck (Universiteit van Amsterdam), as well as four external guest experts: Prof. Dr. Anna-Katharina Hornidge (German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS)), Dr. Barbara Neumann (Forschungsinstitut für Nachhaltigkeit (RIFS)), Prof. Dr. Andres Osorio (Corporation Center of Excellence in Marine Sciences - CEMarin) and Dr. Joanna Staneva (Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon). "We would like to thank all members of the audit team from the bottom of our hearts for encouraging us on our way and preparing us for the evaluation planned for 2027," says our scientific director Bleischwitz Raimund. 📚 This chapter by Simone Christ (IDOS) und Bejamin Etzold (Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies (BICC) gGmBH) in "Family Reunification in Europe. Exposing Inequalities" focuses on displaced people’s transnational family lives in the context of long-term separation. Even though many manage to ‘do family’ across a distance, many separated families experience entrenched periods of ‘enforced transnationalism’. Based on empirical research in Germany with refugees from Syria and Eritrea, the authors distinguish three distinct transnational family figurations: - the reunited nuclear family, - the involuntary separated family, - and the transnationally extended family. By employing the concept of family figurations in displacement, the auhtors provide a practice-oriented understanding of family lives and a power-sensitive analysis of the politics of family separation. 📚 Nearly a decade has passed since antimicrobial resistance (AMR) emerged as an issue of international cooperation. 🚀 Spannender Austausch in Bonn: Der JRF-Vorstand besucht das bicc und IDOS! 🚀 Diese Woche hatten die JRF-Vorstandsmitglieder Prof. Dr. Dieter Bathen und Ramona Fels die Gelegenheit, zwei herausragende Mitgliedsinstitute in #Bonn zu besuchen: das Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies (BICC) gGmBH und das German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS). 🔍 Das bicc forscht zu den Ursachen und Dynamiken von Konflikten und entwickelt Strategien zur Konfliktbewältigung. Im Fokus stehen u.a. Friedensprozesse, Abrüstung und Migration. Die Arbeit des BICC leistet einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Analyse globaler Konfliktlandschaften und unterstützt Akteure in Politik und Gesellschaft bei der Schaffung stabilerer Lebensbedingungen weltweit. 🌍 Das IDOS konzentriert sich auf Entwicklungsforschung und Nachhaltigkeit. Es bietet wissenschaftlich fundierte Impulse für die internationale Zusammenarbeit und erarbeitet Lösungen für globale Herausforderungen wie Klimawandel, Ungleichheit und nachhaltige Entwicklung. Mit seiner Forschung trägt das IDOS dazu bei, gerechtere und nachhaltigere Lebensgrundlagen für alle zu schaffen. 🌐 Als UN-Stadt beherbergt Bonn zahlreiche internationale Organisationen, die sich mit globalen Zukunftsfragen beschäftigen. Der Besuch ermöglichte einen tiefen Einblick in die bedeutenden Forschungsarbeiten beider Institute und ihre Relevanz für die internationale Zusammenarbeit.
