The best multitasker? Forests! 🌲 🌳 🍃 Forests cover over a third of our planet, and they're vital to the survival of practically every species on Earth, including us! Protecting them means safeguarding the planet's health, fighting back against climate change and securing resources for future generations. When was the last time you visited a forest, and where was it?

🦉 The Little Owl is one of the cutest birds you’ll ever see. And right now, it’s critically endangered in some parts of Europe and nearly extinct in many regions of Germany. Last year, we partnered with two rewilding pioneers who have found a way to bring them back. Now, a year later, we went back to find a bunch of newly born baby owls, which shows that our efforts were successful! 💚 But our partner and the owls are facing new challenges that threaten the owls’ recovery. So, we returned with even more community funding to ensure the rewilding project can be a long-term success. 🙌 Thanks to our growing community, we’re bringing six times as much funding as last year - just when it was most needed. Curious to see it with your own eyes? Here you go: https://lnkd.in/ddNhnb6A

🦉 How much do you know about Little Owl? They're cute, they’re small, they’re fluffy. They are also an indicator of healthy ecosystems. Adorably, little owls want to be our neighbors, and find the most comfort near human settlements! They are what’s called a ‘synanthropic species,’ which means they thrive best close to human settlements rather than in complete wilderness. Or to be more precise: they need the right blend of human settlement and natural diversity. But guess what? They are being driven out of their homes by human activity. Their nesting sites are under threat from farming, pesticide use, big agriculture, ground clearance, and various other human interventions. This has resulted in their decline on the European mainland, putting them on the Species of European Conservation Concern. That's why last year, we installed 25 nesting boxes to help bring the owls to a self-sustaining population in an area close to Berlin. The result: more than half were occupied by owl families, making it a huge success! But the work is not over, and this year, we’re going back to support our feathered friends and bring even more funding. Stay tuned for our next mission. Curious about last year’s mission? We’ve got you covered: https://lnkd.in/dUcPnNFE

🌺🐝 Do you know who’s the master of teamwork? Nature! 🐟 🌊 No matter where you look - the ocean, the rainforest or even in your backyard, nature is a live stage of collaboration, or 𝗺𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺. Mutualism refers to a relationship between species, where all parties involved benefit from their interactions. “You scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours” type of situation. "You laugh at my bad jokes, and I'll endorse you on LinkedIn" type of deal. You got it. Jokes aside, mutualism is fundamental for our survival. It plays a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance & supporting all life on Earth, including ours. Remove just one link from this chain, and the whole ecosystem could falter. ❓There are hundreds of examples of mutualism in nature. What's the most fascinating mutualism story that you've come across?

Every minute, we’re losing 27 football fields worth of forest. Around 1 million animal and plant species are now threatened with extinction. By 2050, there could be more plastic in the oceans than fish. The biodiversity crisis is happening right now, and it is vast. Tackling it is a huge undertaking, which is why at Planet Wild, we’re focusing on four main areas: 🌳 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 Forests are the lungs of our planet. They give us oxygen, shelter, jobs, water and nourishment. Around 70 million people and 80% of land animals and plants call forests their home. 🦉 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 Every plant or animal has a unique role in their ecosystem. The loss of even one species can have ripple effects across ecosystems, impacting several other species, including humans. 🌊 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 Covering around 71% of our planet, the ocean is the biggest ecosystem and supports all life on Earth. It absorbs huge amounts of CO2 and heat, and provides us with food, medicine, trade and travel. 📣 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 To make our rewilding efforts even more impactful, we need to change the way people think about biodiversity - it’s not a nice-to-have, but a foundation of all life, including ours. Focusing on these four areas is key to saving our Earth’s rich biodiversity. Each project, from Germany to Ecuador, Scotland to Senegal, brings us one step closer to a healthier planet.

Can we rewrite our future? Even in the wildest places on Earth, nature is on the decline. The changes are profound - and they are happening everywhere. The future seems gloomy and hardly liveable. But... Can we reverse centuries of human impact? Can we create a future where humans and nature have a chance to survive? Can we thrive together? Yes, and rewilding is the key. 🌱 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 What exactly is rewilding? In a nutshell: it is reintroducing native species to areas affected by human activity, then stepping back to let nature take over. It's simple, yet profoundly effective. By giving nature the space to restore itself, we provide the best conditions for its recovery and resilience. ❓𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤? Absolutely—and there are many success stories to prove it! 🐺 Yellowstone National Park: Grey wolves were reintroduced to the region after disappearing for nearly 70 years. Their presence led to a significant reduction in the park’s elk population, creating a stronger and more resilient herd. The park also saw a recovery of vegetation and an increase in habitat for other species to flourish. 🦦 Argentina's Iberá Wetlands: The reintroduction of several locally extinct species like the capybara, giant river otter, and Pampas deer has revitalized the area into a rural paradise, and provided significant economic benefits to local communities. 🔍 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭? The success of rewilding initiatives depends heavily on the project's goals, timeline, scale and influence of local communities. Each rewilding project needs careful planning and monitoring to achieve long-term success. This is why rewilding isn’t always as popular as other conservation methods. 💪 𝐎𝐤, 𝐥𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬! Popular or not, rewilding gives us a real chance to rewrite the future. That’s why, at Planet Wild, we started doing just that - helping nature to thrive. Every month, we work with wildlife pioneers worldwide to 🦁 bring back endangered species, 🌊 support oceans and aquatic life, 🌳 revive forests and rewild landscapes. Do you believe rewilding is the future, too?

Sharks can be pretty scary, but they’re the ones that need saving! Around 100 million sharks are killed every year. Insane! 🤯 The main reason? Overfishing. Even though sharks often aren’t targeted, they end up as bycatch. This is bad news for our oceans, since sharks are vital for marine ecosystems. This massive decline in shark population is disrupting the delicate balance of ocean food webs and can have severe consequences for marine ecosystems. Unless we do something about it! And that’s exactly what we are doing. So, in our latest mission, we supported a groundbreaking shark conservation method that could be a game-changer for marine protection worldwide. Our mission partner, Greg Nowell has pioneered this method, revolutionizing shark conservation. And it all started in an unexpected place: his garage. His story shows how small, grassroots projects can make the biggest difference! Yet, they’re often the ones that need funding the most. Thanks to our incredible community, we can support Greg and projects like his! Want to see our mission in action? While climate change gets a lot of attention, we don’t talk enough about how the natural world is vanishing on an unbelievably massive scale. Biodiversity is not a nice-to-have. It's absolutely vital for our food and water supply, medicine, and shelter. Without it, our survival is at risk. 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰? • Every day, we lose 135 plants, animals and insect species due to deforestation. • Up to one million species are now threatened with extinction, many within decades. • Wildlife populations have dropped 69% since 1970. Imagine a Jenga tower where every piece is a species - animals, plants, fungi. Remove too many, and the tower collapses. This is exactly what's happening right now. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲? 🌳 Habitat loss and degradation: Agriculture and deforestation displace or extinguish countless species. 🎣 Overexploitation of natural resources: Unsustainable practices like overfishing and logging. 🥵 Climate Change: Rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, and extreme weather events force species to relocate in search of food and water. 🏭 Pollution: Air, water, and soil contamination harm ecosystems. 👾 Invasive Species: These overwhelm ecosystems, causing irreversible damage. These threats often interact, building on each other's effects. Habitat loss can make species more vulnerable to climate change impacts, while pollution can weaken ecosystems' resilience to invasive species. 𝐀 𝐆𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 While the damage is severe, a lot of it can be reversed with direct and timely action. 🌳 Forest ecosystems can recover in 42 years. 🐟 The ocean floor can recover in less than a decade. 🦬 Animals can be brought back from local extinction. Planet Wild community does just that. Every month, we fund projects that restore forests and oceans, protect species, and promote sustainability. 👉 Learn more and join the community of doers: www.planetwild.com
