    ✨ First steps towards space 🚀 and 2027 in focus for the launch! We shipped the first prototype of the #QYRO unit to DLR Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. for performance testing of the hard- and software. QYRO is an atomic gyroscope for the attitude control of cubesats, which will in future form a satellite network in lower orbit for world-wide internet connectivity. Leading the project, Q.ANT has been responsible for unit design, integration, and testing - and has delivered this prototype as first milestone after 2 years of development in time and scope. The project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is a huge effort of all collaboration partners, including the DLR Galileo Kompetenzzentrum (GK) for all space-related aspects, Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik, TRUMPF TLB & TPC for VCSELS and laser diodes as well as Bosch for the vapor cell and the magnetic shielding - a big THANK YOU to all involved! DLR will now connect and test the atomic gyroscope with the FlatSat for an electrical test campaign and a functional test campaign to follow, with a performance test scheduled for the end of this month. Reliable transmission of satellite communication signals can only be achieved by constantly maintaining high-precision attitude control of satellites in their orbit. If a satellite moves out of position, the signals get weaker. The gyroscope is developed to permanently enhance measurement stability. The sensors, based on quantum technologies, are particularly suitable for deployment in satellites thanks to their ability to provide reliably accurate measurement results and excellent performance in a compact, low-weight package. This solution can keep satellites correctly oriented in space over a period of years. #innovation #sensortechnology #teamwork #sensors #space #satellite

    Online talk LTC Uni Hannover - Revolutionizing Satellite Communication with Quantum Gyroscopes 🛰 Our quantum physicist, Lara Torralbo-Campo, shared insights on the groundbreaking Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung BMBF project QYRO in an online talk to PhD students and postdocs from the Institute for Quantum Optics at Leibniz Universität Hannover. QYRO aims to develop space-qualified quantum gyroscopes used to precisely control the orientation of CubeSat communication satellites. These high-precision quantum gyroscopes have the potential to outperform current satellite orientation technologies in the future enabling a global, infrastructure-independent internet access 🌍   In her role as project manager of QYRO, Lara emphasized the crucial collaboration between research and industry when developing such groundbreaking technologies and shared her own journey: From wanting to become an astronaut as a kid, she worked as a quantum physicist in academia and is now industrializing quantum sensing for space at Q.ANT. BUT: Skilled marketers, product managers, sales, HR, and finance talents who drive commercialization of deep tech products are just as important. 🚀 We were delighted to welcome over 20 Digital Business Management students from DHBW Stuttgart at Q.ANT. While the young specialists in their field learned about the technical aspects of photonic quantum technology from our expert Dr. Gerald Waldherr, Yohini Balaji provided an excellent overview of job opportunities for business students and young professionals in a deep tech start-up.
