We redefine aluminium rolling and recycling globally. For a circular world that works.
Info
Speira is a leading European aluminium rolling and recycling company, comprising a total of eleven recycling and production sites in Germany and Norway plus own research and development. We recycle up to 650,000 tons of aluminium per year and produce around one million tons of advanced rolled products. The plants include the Alunorf joint venture, the world’s largest aluminium rolling mill, and Grevenbroich, the world’s largest refining plant. Our customers include top industrial companies in automotive, packaging, printing, engineering, and construction. Our purpose extends beyond business growth; we aim to set the sustainability benchmark in the industry by delivering high-quality, low-carbon products. We minimize emissions across the entire value chain, using recycled materials and ressources efficiently. To indicate products with at least 75% recycled content or emissions close to zero, we have developed the labels ORBIS and RIVOS, underscoring our commitment to build a circular world that works.

We are taking our transformation to the next level with the state-of-the-art furnace 6. This exciting and challenging construction project was built during ongoing production. The furnace 6 in Hamburg adds 40,000 tons of #aluminium casting capacity, most of it from recycled material. Thanks to all partners, especially GHI SMART FURNACES and everyone who contributed to the successful completion of this investment. #redefinethelimits #inspeiradbyaluminium

A new state-of-the-art slag press is being installed at our Karmøy plant. This will allow us to recycle waste from #aluminium production. “Not only will the quality of the product be higher, but we will reduce both operating costs and waste from production" explains Pål T. Endresen, plant manager at Speira Karmøy. Recycling and treatment of aluminium slag is an important part of our strategy to become the industry benchmark in #sustainability by delivering high-quality low-carbon and #recycling capabilities. #redefinethelimits #inspeiradbyaluminium #closetheloop

Speira invests NOK 414 million in a new furnace for recycled material! "This investment secures a large number of jobs in Holmestrand for the foreseeable future. The old furnace has been in operation for 50 years and the new one is expected to last at least another 50 years. This is very good news," explains Jon Gaasholt, plant manager at Speira Holmestrand. With the new furnace, we will be able to process an additional 22,000 tons of scrap per year. This means that about half of the site's production will be based on recycled scrap. This will reduce the carbon footprint of the Holmestrand operations by 150,000 tons of CO2. The furnace will also reduce NOx emissions and odors from the site. The extensive project to install the new furnace is expected to be completed by summer 2026. #redefinethelimits #inspeiradbyaluminium

Over time, aluminium retains its #quality without any loss. This ensures reliable performance for years to come. It is corrosion resistant, which means low maintenance and long-term #durability. In addition, aluminium is a lightweight material that improves fuel efficiency and performance. That's why Keith Wright, project manager at Diverse Marine, chose our VIA Maris Njørdal aluminium solution for shipbuilding. Diverse Marine is at the forefront of #aluminium vessel construction and is building its fleet for the future. #redefinethelimits #inspeiradbyaluminium #shipbuilding

We were delighted to host the Constantia Flexibles team at our Rheinwerk casthouse and UBC sorting line. The engaging discussions and exchanges on low carbon #aluminium were truly enriching. We look forward to continuing our successful collaboration! #redefinethelimits #inspeiradbyaluminium
Ever wondered where #LowCarbonAluminum is produced? We gained great insights during our visit to the plant of our supplier, Speira, and were fascinated by their dedication to aluminum. Thank you for the engaging discussions, which brought to light many interesting aspects. We also want to express our gratitude for the well-organized event for the Constantia Team. Special thanks to the Speira Team for their collaboration and support during the plant tours at AluNorf, Rheinwerk Casthouse and UBC sorting line as well as for thoroughly answering our questions. The teams' technical discussions, engagement, and passion were truly inspiring. Here's to more insightful collaborations in the future! #Collaboration #Innovation #LowCarbonAlu

Exciting developments at Speira R&D in Bonn! Our test trials at the Recycling Technology Center are diving into the intricacies of #aluminium scrap melting. We are evaluating the performance of various energy sources for melting different aluminium scrap types while also analyzing how different processing methods affect scrap behavior during melting. Here is a glimpse into our last test: A minimum of 300 kg of input material is manually charged into the lab single-chamber furnace. After complete melting, we skim the furnace and extract a representative dross sample. Following this, we empty the furnace in 250 kg ingots and take spectrometer and melt-quality samples during the casting process. In other trials, the same lab furnace is set up as a shaft furnace to resemble our production #recycling furnaces, which are capable of melting scrap with up to 5% organic content. This allows us to match scrap, furnace and charging method in the best possible way. #redefinethelimits #inspeiradbyaluminium #researchanddevelopment

We continue our transformation for aluminium #recycling with our new furnace 6! With this furnace, we are now able to produce more slabs at the Hamburg casthouse while incorporating more scrap. This allows us to reduce our CO2 footprint and metal costs. Dr. Nils Bauerschlag explains: "While designing the new furnace, we also considered #safety aspects by incorporating many new features that allow us to operate this furnace much safer than before". With furnace 6, we are implementing state-of-the-art energy efficiency and process control for our customers. Alexander Doersel highlights: "This new furnace is important for us. It will optimize metal flows and increase recycling opportunities within Speira.” We look forward to the positive impact on our operations and our commitment to #sustainability. #redefinethelimits #inspeiradbyaluminium
