    G4S: Cyber security in practice with the Automotive Cybersecurity SPICE® extension From July 2024 no new vehicle is allowed to be sold without a valid cybersecurity certification! Digitalization and mobile connectivity enable a lot of amenities in our daily life. The dark side is, that our digital devices become more vulnerable as well. Road vehicles are no exception!   The UNECE is one of five regional commissions under the United Nations, dedicated to economic cooperation in Europe. Among others, the harmonization of vehicle regulations is one of its goals. In order to manage cyber security risks and to protect road vehicles from cyber-attacks, the UNECE has published two regulations in 2021, which are binding to all 56 members of the UNECE. Both regulations increase the pressure on the automotive industry to establish and certify a cybersecurity management system (CSMS, R155) as well as an appropriate software update management system (SUMS, R156).   The impact of these regulations is huge. It does not only affect the technical architecture of ECU systems and automotive software. It affects how OEMs are organized, to ensure cyber security risks are well managed in the entire supply chain.   The purpose of the Automotive Cybersecurity SPICE® extension is to identify process related product risks. It supports to establish an appropriate system and software engineering process landscape and to evaluate them systematically.     The Gate4SPICE event was a good opportunity to talk about experiences. It was very interesting to exchange about the impact to the product design and its capabilities to handle cyber security during the entire life-time of a vehicle.
