Our world is changing; it is accelerating at a rapidly increasing rate.Globalization is not only forcing large companies to adjust, but also small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Their local markets are being invaded by global competitors, requiring them to rise to a higher level of professionalism. ERP system manufacturers have realized this and have extended their product line to encompass systems tailored for use in SMEs. Once the implementation decision has been made, SMEs are equally faced with organizational transition challenges. Due to their size, SMEs have command over limited resources and lack specialist knowledge, requiring an adapted Change Management approach. ERP systems for SMEs being a fairly recent development, professional literature has not yet had the time to concern itself intensively with the topic.

This book first illustrates the basic role of the “people factor” in change projects to create an understanding of the situation and then, building on that, develops a checklist to accompany small and medium-sized enterprises through all phases of an ERP implementation project, highlighting 53 Change Management activities. These tasks aim at understanding, involving, and informing employees to foster project ownership, cope with resistance and reduce anxiety. Using Change Management, companies can recognize and utilize the momentum and potential hidden in every employee to achieve long-term success.
