AM Green Ammonia B.V. has reached Final Investment Decision (FID) for its first million-ton #greenammonia project in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, #India. The company, part of the AM Green Group, aims to achieve a production capacity of 5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of #green #ammonia by 2030.   The total project spend for the plant will cover the #greenhydrogen generation unit and its subsequent conversion to green ammonia, along with all associated balance of plant and infrastructure.   This project will be located at an existing #urea plant in Kakinada, which the company acquired earlier this as part of the overall capex spend. The facility is planned to be converted into a green ammonia production unit, with production expected to commence in the second half of 2026.   The Kakinada facility has been pre-certified by CertifHy as compliant with the EU RFNBO requirements for green ammonia, including additionality and hourly matching of #renewables. Most of the production from this facility will be exported to European markets.   The company has already executed offtake term sheets for this project with major players such as Uniper, Yara, Keppel, and others for intended end use in a range of green #hydrogen applications.   The company has secured the required 1,300 MW round-the-clock carbon-free power, enabled through 4,500 MW of #solar and #wind hybrid capacity combined with 950 MW of pumped storage plant (PSP) capacity.   A 25-year fixed-price power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTPC, covering half of this capacity, is already in place. The remaining capacity is expected to be supplied by Gentari.   The company has unique access to gigawatt-scale pumped storage projects and a manufacturing partnership with John Cockerill for 2 GW of #electrolyser capacity. These pressurized #alkaline #electrolysers are envisioned to be deployed for this project.   Leveraging these capabilities provides solutions for #renewable #intermittency issues and allows for up to 90% utilization of the deployed electrolysers, making this one of the most innovative and cost-efficient green ammonia projects globally, according to the company. Topsoe, Skovgaard Energy, and Vestas have inaugurated a new #green #ammonia plant in Ramme, #Denmark. The plant will produce 5,000 tons of #greenammonia annually from #renewable #electricity, preventing 8,200 tons of CO₂ from being emitted into the atmosphere every year.   The plant will demonstrate a dynamic approach by adapting to the inherent fluctuations in power output from renewable sources, integrating with the plant’s #electrolysis and ammonia synthesis loop. This will ensure optimal production and improve cost-effectiveness. With power sourced from #renewables, the produced ammonia will be labelled as green ammonia. 10 MW of #electrolyser capacity was supplied by Nel Hydrogen. Read the full story 👇

Uniper has chosen Liquid Wind to develop the NorthStarH2 project in the municipality of Östersund, #Sweden. Uniper aims to produce over 100,000 tons of #eMethanol for the shipping and chemical industries, offering a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels and feedstock.   Once operational, NorthStarH2 will synthesize biogenic carbon dioxide and #greenhydrogen, produced from #renewable #electricity, into eMethanol – a fossil-free #eFuel. Liquid Wind has been selected to develop the project using its unique project methodology, which includes a standardized design and a digital platform that enables efficient replication to replace fossil fuels and feedstock. Hystar has awarded German industrial engineering company thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contract for the supply of Hystar’s automated 4.5-GW #electrolyser #manufacturing line for its factory in Høvik, #Norway.   This contract marks a significant milestone in Hystar’s expansion efforts and will encompass detailed planning and design. The new production line will significantly improve #efficiency, increasing production #capacity beyond the current 100 MW.   Uniquely for a GW electrolyser factory, the total footprint required is only 2,500 m², including #stack assembly, quality control, and testing. The stack components are supplied by strategic suppliers from an established, high-volume supply chain. Utilising this existing supply chain allows Hystar to quickly scale up production capacity. H-TEC SYSTEMS has announced that on 30 September, it will rebrand as Quest One. With its rebranding, the company underscores its ambitious goal: by 2050, it aims to avoid 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions through the use of its #electrolyzers. This rebranding coincides with the opening of a new production facility in Hamburg, Germany. The new Gigahub will facilitate the automated series production of #stacks, with a potential total #electrolysis capacity of over 5 GW annually at full capacity. Previously, many of these manufacturing steps have been performed manually. With the automation of production at the Gigahub, up to 75% of the current production time can be saved.   Around 200 employees will work at the Gigahub location in the areas of production, development, testing, and service. The finished stacks and electrolyzers will then be assembled at the company’s Augsburg site in southern Germany by a team of more than 350 employees, using the automotive assembly principle. Power to Hydrogen has raised over USD 18 million to scale and deploy anion exchange membrane (#AEM) #electrolysis #technology. The Series A funding was led by venture studio Rev1 Ventures and strategic investor Worthington Enterprises. The round also includes support from global investors, including Finindus, JERA Co., Inc., Asahi Kasei, American Electric Power, EDP Ventures, E.ON, ESB, FH Capital, INP Capital, and others.   Power to Hydrogen is working closely with government and industry leaders to develop and implement its technology at scale. Its innovative AEM electrolysis enables high current density and high-pressure #hydrogen production while meeting industry durability requirements. The technology is considered a potential breakthrough in electrolysis due to its high performance, low-cost materials, and ability to tie into #renewable #energy. Power to Hydrogen has proven these advantages in multiple paid pilots with leading global energy companies.   With the new funding, the company will grow its U.S.-based team in Columbus, Ohio, expand its manufacturing and supply chain, and launch new offices in Belgium as part of its international expansion. The company will also complete the development of its industrial-scale electrolysis stack and system, enabling it to install the largest AEM electrolysis stack in the world at the Port of Antwerp in the coming months. Following its decision, announced in June 2024, to invest in a new production line for its third-generation #electrodes for #hydrogen #electrolyzers, HydrogenPro expects production to start in Q1 2025 and, after optimization work, the production line to reach an annual #capacity of about 350 MW, which is considerably more than initially anticipated, without requiring any additional investment. This has been accomplished by optimizing rinsing and drying capacity, as well as improving the operational control systems. There is ongoing work for further capacity expansions.   Jarle Dragvik, CEO of HydrogenPro, said: “I am very pleased that our teams in both Norway and Denmark have managed to make a good investment even better. The increase in capacity will enable us to meet the demand and to use our experience in delivering to large industrial projects globally and to continue to play a leading role in supplying large scale, high quality electrolyzers.”

Next Hydrogen has been awarded a contract by the University of Minnesota (UMN) for its latest-generation #electrolysis technology to be installed at the UMN West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC). The WCROC project aims to demonstrate the production of #ammonia from #renewableenergy, targeting emerging energy markets and existing agricultural markets.   Next Hydrogen will supply its latest third-generation #alkaline water #electrolyzers, which feature improvements in energy #efficiency, current density, and operating pressure. According to the company, these electrolyzers offer complete and responsive renewable energy load-following capability, which is essential for producing #hydrogen from intermittent energy sources such as #wind and #solar.
