The Top Drive Basic Configuration contains:

Onboard Hydraulic
The onboard hydraulic provides the system pressure for all hydraulic functions on
the Top Drive. The hydraulic unit providing the following functions:
 IBOP open / close
 Link tilt mechanism
 Back Up Clamp open / close
 Pipehandler rotation
 Counterbalance functions
preparation for existing hydraulic elevators is available as an option
preparations for other hydraulic tools are available on request

Carriage
The Top drive is guided by a carriage package. It transfers the torque from the top
drive into the Guide rails.
The Carriage Package consists of a frame with slide shoes, it transfers the
Torque it to the Mast structure. Adjustment to centre well is performed by
adjusting devices.

Service Loop
The Top drive has a Power Loop (1) that supplies electrical power to the motor
and a Control Loop (2). The control Loop holds all control lines and the electrical
1 power supply for the auxiliary drives.

The Loop Length with an overall length of 263 ft (80m) is suitable for a 142ft
(43,3m) Mast height with an average Rig Layout configuration.

3 Guide Rail Package


Guide Rails
Guide Rails absorbing the torque of the carriage and transfer it to the mast
structure. The Guide Rail assembly is divided into 5 sections suitable for a 142ft
(43,3m) Mast height from drillfloor. 4 guide rail sections are stored in a guide rail
magazine. The 5th guide rail section is assembled with the Top Drive and acts
together with an L-Skid as a transport Frame.
Guide Rail Extensions for higher masts & derricks can be supplied as
specified.

Guide Rail Magazine


The Guide Rail Magazine allows a fast and safe handling of the guide rails during
transport & installation. The guide rail magazine will be lifted on the drillfloor for
installation. After installation of the 4 guide rail segments the Top Drive with the
5th section of the guide rail can be lifted into the Guide Rail Magazine. From this
position the Top Drive can be assembled with the 4th Guide Rail segment.

Top Drive Transport Frame


The Top Drive is mounted on 5th guide rail section. A hoisting frame is mounted to
this guide Rail to lift the Top Drive during rig up, rig down and transport. An L-Skid
is also assembled to this guide rail to bring the Top Drive in upright position.

4 Drillers Control
Drillers Control
The Top Drive is controlled by the Panel shown below. This panel is used as a
standalone unit installed within the doghouse. The position will be determined
during the rig survey or based on provided information by client.
Customized implementations are available as an option.

5 VFD-Container
The VFD Power Control contains all control devices and frequency converters
which are needed to operate the Top drive.

6 Implementation Kit

parts are depends on the results of the rig survey or by requested drawings

Please Note: The Implementation of Bentec Top Drives may influence the
statics of the Mast. Bentec will submit static relevant data’s within a
confirmation drawing after purchase order. The client is responsible for the
verification of the Mast statics.

7 Supervision for Installation, Commissioning & Training


The duration of Supervision Installation, commissioning and training are 30
Days on location. (Travelling costs and accommodation will be charged
separately.) This contains:
 Installation of the Top drive system by client into the existing rig under
supervision of one Bentec engineer.
 Commissioning of the Top Drive system by two Bentec engineers
 Test Runs by two Bentec Engineers
 Hands on Training during operation by one Bentec engineer.
Duration of supervision is extendable on request.

8 Documentation
Documentation
The Top Drive System will be delivered together with a technical documentation.
This documentation contains all information regarding the Top Drive System and
their subcomponents. These Information’s contains:

Options
9 Option - Rig survey
If all necessary Information’s about the existing rig are available Bentec
recommends a rig survey prior to the project start. It guarantees that the Top
Drive system fits in an optimal way into the existing rig. The Rig survey takes
max. Two days on location and will be performed by one Bentec engineer.
(Travelling costs and accommodation will be charged separately.) The Following
Points will be surveyed.
Survey Contents:
 Measurements at mast
 Measurements on drill floor
 Measurements on fingerboard level
 Measurements for tieback kit
 Check of Mast for Service Loop implementation
 Check of Mast for possible collisions with the Top Drive
 Check of Doghouse for control implementation
 Check of Power supply

10 Option - Spare Part Kits


The spare part kit contains spare parts and wear parts which are recommended
during normal operation. The Spare Part kit guarantees a safe uptime of the Top
Drive due to spare parts availability at the rig or base.
The following spare parts kits are available:
 Spare Part Kit - 1 Year
 Spare Part Kit - 2 Years
 Spare Part Kit - 3 Years
Spare Parts packages can be customized as on request

11 Option - Wear Part Kit


The wear part package contains only wear parts recommended during normal
operation. The wear part package is suitable for a one year operation. Bentec
recommend the option spare part option in addition to the recommended wear
parts set to guarantee a safe uptime of the Top Drive due to availability of spare
parts at the rig or base.

12 Option – Elevator Links


Elevator links with a capacity of 350 ton (317t) and 500 ton (454t) are possible.
The following sizes are available:
 350t or 500t x 108” (2,74m)
 350t or 500t x 120” (3,05m)(recommended)
 350t or 500t x 132” (3,35m)
 350t or 500t x 180” (4,57m)
Other Elevator link lengths are available on request.

13 Option – Drillpipe (DP) Elevators


The following Drillpipe (DP) Elevator types are available:
 Manual Elevator 350ton (317t) or 500ton (454t)
 Hydraulic Elevator 350ton (317t) or 500ton (454t) (including implementation)
 Automatic Elevator 350ton (317t) or 500ton (454t)
Manual and hydraulic Elevators are supplied together with Drillpipe bushings
according to the specified tool joint ranges.
Casing (CSG) Elevators are available on request

14 Option – Preparation for existing hydraulic elevators


The Preparation for existing manual elevators can be added to the Top Drive
basic configuration.
The Preparation includes:
 Additional Hydraulic Hoses for the existing elevator
 Switches and Valves for On/Off
 Implementation of the Controls within the Drillers Control

15 Option – Saver Subs


The Top Drive is equipped with one Saver Sub. The thread connection to the
IBOP is NC61. The Thread connection to the Drillpipe is individual. If not specified
the connection to the Drillpipe is NC50. Saver Subs will be supplied to specified
Tool Joint Sizes.
The following sizes are available:
 NC 38
 NC 40
 NC 46
 NC 50
 5 ½” FH (139,7mm)
 6 5/8” FH (168,3mm)
Special Saver Sub thread connections are available on request.

16 Option – Tool Joint Adapter Kit


The Top Drive is equipped with one tool joint adapter kit. The kit contains a set of
jaw assemblies and a suitable stabbing guide which fits to the specified Tool Joint
Range.
If not specified the Top Drive is equipped with a Tool Joint Adapter Kit Size III.
The Following Tool Joint adapter kits are possible:
 Size I – Tool Joint range OD: 4”-5” (101,6mm – 127mm)
 Size II - Tool Joint range OD: 5 ¼” – 6 ¼” (133,4mm – 158,7mm)
 Size III – Tool Joint range OD: 6 ¼” – 7 ¾” (158,7mm – 196,9mm)
 Size IV – Tool Joint range OD: 7 ½” – 8 ½” (190,5mm – 216,9mm)

17 Option – Incoming Power Cable


Incoming power cable is the connection between VFD-Container to the existing
SCR unit. The Cables are pluggable on both sides.
The Standard Length of the incoming power cable is 50 ft (15m).
Longer cables can be supplied as specified.

18 Option – Lubricant kit


The Lubricant package is suitable for one year operation of the Top Drive.
The Lubrication kit includes Gear Oil and Hydraulic Oil
According to the area of use the two lubricant kits are possible:
 Lubricant kit – Normal temperature range
 Lubricant kit – Normal & Arctic temperature range

19 Option – Wireline Adapter


The Wireline adapter allows using Wireline tools with the Bentec Top Drive. The
Wireline Adapter can be mounted below the Pipehandler main frame.

20 Option – Mud Hose


The design of the mud hose is suitable to the temperature range of use. To
supply the correct Mud hose the following information’s are necessary:
 Standpipe Thread connection
 Standpipe height from drillfloor
 Mast Information

21 Option – Drillers Control - Chair implementation


The Top Drive controls can be implemented into an existing Driller’s Chair. The
Implementation work onsite will be executed by a Bentec Service engineer.
Technical Information’s about the Drillers chair are necessary in advance or
determined during a rig survey.
Other special implementations are available on request

22 Option - Service Loop Container


The Service Loop Container is an open Top 20ft (6m) open top container. The
Service Loop and Service Loop saddle can be stored within this container during
rig move. The Service loop will be stored within this container in optimal
environments and avoid any damages during transport and storage.

23 Option – Top Drive Power Generator


The Top Drive can be equipped with a Generator Module to operate the Top
Drive as an independent unit. The Top Drive control system has an integrated
power management. This power management prevents an overloading of the
engine, allows remote start and monitors all status & fault information. In case of
using this option the VFD Controls for the Top Drive is also implemented within
this Container Module.

24 Option – Remote VFD Access


The Top Drive VFD-Container can be equipped with a Remote Access function.
In that case the VFD Container is equipped with a Black Box which is connected
to a Notebook installed within the VFD Container. The Notebook is installed with
Software able to readout actual operating parameters of Top Drive. The Notebook
is able to build up a connection to an existing Internet connection onsite. A client
can build up a remote connection to the Notebook and read out Black Box Data’s
from anywhere in the world. The Notebook is equipped with state of the art
Firewalls and Antivirus Programs.

25 Option – Color Camera system


A Color Camera system is a fixed or is able to pan and tilt. This Camera can be
installed at any position on the rig to monitor hazardous areas like racking board-,
drillfloor-, and crown block level. The preferred position of the camera needs to be
determined by the customer. The monitor of the Camera is mounted in the
Driller’s Cabin. The Number of Camera’s has to be determined by the customer.
The circuit board for the controls is mounted in a separate EX d box. Cablings
from the camera to the EX d box is directly connected without plugs.

26 Option – Bentec Soft Torque Rotary System


The Bentec Soft Torque System is a self adjusting system with incorporated
vibration analyzer for optimal drilling parameters. It is designed to dampen drill
string torsion vibrations. It is designed to dampen drill string torsion vibrations. It
differs from previous systems in its operation and tuning procedure being based
on a mathematical model of the entire rotary system. This warrants optimum
damping performance under all conditions. The Soft Torque Rotary system will be
installed as an Upgrade within the VFD Container.

27 Option - Maintenance Service


The following maintenance service options are possible:
 Monthly maintenance service
 6-monthly maintenance service
 Yearly maintenance service
The Yearly Maintenance service will be done by Bentec onsite. Within the
Maintenance Service our Top Drive Specialists check all Top Drive Parts,
systems and functions. If some parts or systems need to be repaired or replaced
Bentec will charge the costs separately. The following points are executed by
Bentec service engineers according to the technical documentation.
Maintenance Service Contents:
 Maintenance of all Motors
 Maintenance of the gearbox
 Maintenance of the complete hydraulic system
 Maintenance of the complete mechanical system
 Maintenance of the complete electrical system
 Function Test

28 Option – Training Course


The Training Course is extensive classroom training. The training can be done in
our main facilities in Bad Bentheim, Tyumen or Muscat. The training can be
carried out prior to a Top Drive installation or after that. (Travelling costs and
accommodation has to be paid by client.)
The training Course got the following content:
 Top Drive Operation
 Top Drive Hydraulics
 Top Drive Mechanics
 Top Drive Electrics
Participants:
This Course is provided for: Driller, Toolpusher, Repair- and Maintenance Crews
or people who are directly responsible for the Top Drive.

29 Option – Offshore Certification


For Offshore applications the Top Drive system will be certified by a third-party
organisation. This Certificate is formally known as a Case-by-Case approval. The
Certification includes design verification and product verification. Furthermore all
load-path included parts will be Type approved. Interface related points between
the existing rig system and the Top Drive System need to be clarified during an
interface clarification meeting between Bentec and client.
Supported Certification Organisations are:
 DNV – Det Norske Veritas
 ABS – American Bureau of Shipping
 Lloyds British

30 Option – Turnkey Installation, Commissioning & Training


The Installation of the Top Drive System and Training will be carried out by a
