UPDATED, 7:30 PM: Looks like the co-creator of the blockbuster Fox series made a funny that he says some people didn’t pick up on. After dropping the F-bomb online earlier today over the Emmy snubs of Empire, Lee Daniels now is saying it was all a joke.

The executive producer went back online Thursday to apparently clarify his remarks in a much calmer fashion. Daniels says he “loves the Emmys” and has nothing but good wishes for the nominations that his show received and others. While Taraji P. Henson snared a Best Actress nom, fellow lead Terrence Howard came up empty-handed, as did the show, unexpectedly, in the Drama Series category. Check out the video below to hear what Daniels said most recently.

PREVIOUSLY, 1:30 PM: He’s never been one not to speak his mind and the co-creator of the blockbuster hip hop drama has finally said what he really thinks about Empire being surprisingly snubbed today for Outstanding Drama Series at the Emmy Awards nominations.

Daniels’ explicit remarks in the Instragram clip below come after a morning of offering congratulations to Taraji P. Henson for her Outstanding Actress nomination and the other two noms that the Fox show received. Fellow lead Terrence Howard did not get a nomination today. Empire returns for its second season on September 23 – three days after the 2015 Emmys.
