Gun violence rates in America are hundreds of times higher than in other industrialized countries – and it’s time we change that.

As a member of the Financial Services Committee – as well as the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations and the Subcommittee on Diversity and Inclusion – Rep. Dean works to create an economy that serves everyone.

Since 2006, student debt in America has nearly tripled; almost 45 million borrowers owe $1.6 trillion, and the average borrower owes close to $33,000 and pays nearly $400 per month in debt service.

Rep. Dean believes that the protection of our planet and environmental stewardship are some of government’s core responsibilities. She values our natural spaces and supports efforts to preserve vulnerable species.

Dean Joins Bipartisan Call for Biden Administration to Designate Marc Fogel as Wrongfully Detained, Bring Him Home

Today, Congresswoman Madeleine Dean (PA-04) joined a bipartisan, bicameral group of Members of Congress in writing to Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging the Administration to do everything in its power to bring Pennsylvania teacher Marc Fogel home. Fogel, a Pennsylvania native, is a U.S. citizen and career educator who has been imprisoned by Russia since August 2021 for carrying less than an ounce of medical marijuana, which was legally prescribed to him by his doctor to treat severe medical conditions. Since Mr. Fogel was not included in the multi-country prisoner swap that released detainees including Evan Gershkovich and Paul Whelan earlier this month, the Members are pushing the Administration to prioritize Mr. Fogel's case and to designate him as “wrongfully detained.”

Congresswoman Dean, Senator Warren Lead Bicameral Letter Expressing Concerns Over Navient’s Debt Relief Process For Defrauded Borrowers

Representative Madeleine Dean (PA-04) and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) led more than 30 lawmakers in a letter urging student loan servicer Navient to reform its flawed process to cancel the private student loans of borrowers who attended fraudulent, for-profit colleges. The lawmakers argued that under the FTC Holder Rule and due to Navient’s misconduct, the company is liable for these predatory loans—and the school misconduct discharge application it has set up to relieve them is opaque and insufficient.

Today, Congresswoman Madeleine Dean (PA-04), member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement commending the Biden-Harris Administration’s work to bring Evan Gershkovich, Paul Whelan, Alsu Kurmasheva, and Vladimir Kara-Murza home from Russia. Congresswoman Dean also renewed her call for Pennsylvanian Marc Fogel to be released. Fogel is serving a 14-year sentence for possession of medical marijuana used to treat a severe back injury.
