New Judd Apatow Series Backed By Netflix – Will It Be Another ‘Girls’?

Producer Judd Apatow and Lesley Arfin, known for her writing stints on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Girls, have teamed up to create a brand new, Netflix exclusive series, due out in 2016.

According to Variety, the rom-dramedy series, Love, has already been granted two seasons at a total of 22 episodes — a major commitment for both Apatow and Netflix. Though Apatow is best known for his raunchy, stoner-friendly films, his greatest accomplishments were both born on the small screen. Both Undeclared and Freaks and Geeks have earned second lives and loyal cult followings since Netflix adopted them into their sea of titles a few years ago.

Love will star Community’s Gillian Jacobs—who herself has helped lead a charge in bringing great television to the masses through online outlets—and Comedy Bang Bang’s Paul Rust as her boyfriend. Reportedly, the series will focus on aspects of modern-day relationships couples would rather not share with each other, like commitment issues.

As many of you know, Apatow also hails as executive producer on HBO’s Girls, which happens to be the only series of his that has lasted longer than one season. Perhaps working with mega-talented women is Judd’s secret to his recent television success, and Lesley Arfin is his new Lena Dunham.

Can Apatow keep up with the cool kids of Netflix? What does this mean for the future of Girls? Why did Netflix buy two seasons to start with instead of just one? Sound off in the comments!
