Decider would like to wish a happy 86th birthday to one and only Clint Eastwood, a paragon of American masculinity if there ever was one. Throughout his 60+ year showbiz career —his first credited role was waaaaay back in 1955 in a TV movie called Allen In Movieland— Clint has developed a reputation as a gruff, no nonsense figure both in front of and behind the camera. He’s a man of action, if not necessarily a man of many words.

For an actor who’s not really known for his catchphrases (“Go ahead, make my day” being one very notable exception), Clint had instead relied on his expressive visage to get his point across in each of his 68 film roles. In other words, he’s got a flair for the glare. Whether angrily looking up from just underneath the brim of his 10 gallon hat or staring you down from behind the barrel of a gun, one thing’s for certain: you never want to be on the receiving end of one of his piercing glances. Because when that brow begins to furrow, it’s game over, man. Just call him Squint Eastwood!
