Final Shots: Hulu Acquires SVOD Rights To Disney’s ‘Pocahontas,’ ‘Mulan’ and More

Through a major licensing deal, Hulu has acquired exclusive SVOD rights to a number of Disney films including Mulan and Pocahontas. The brand new agreement marks the platform’s first ever deal with the global brand.

According to a press release, Hulu has also acquired the streaming rights to The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hercules, Sister Act and Air Bud as part of the multi-year deal, all of which are now streaming via the platform. Popular theatrical features such as Gone in 60 Seconds, Pearl Harbor, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, The Mighty Ducks, as well as Lilo & Stitch, Tarzan and more will become available on Hulu over the coming months.

Netflix reportedly uses an algorithm to determine how much a potential show is worth and ultimately, how much they’re willing to pay. Documentary filmmaker Craig Atkinson revealed his findings, which were uncovered during negotiations with the platform, during a recent interview. [Quartz]

Executive producer Rodrigo Blaas spoke to one outlet about how Trollhunters, which Guillermo del Toro originally envisioned as a movie, became a Netflix original series. Blaas stated “we worked on making it as a feature for three years, but one of the things we found was that it was hard to compress all of that story into an hour and a half or a two-hour feature animation movie.” [Collider]
