Solar Eclipse 2017: How To Live Stream The Solar Eclipse For Free

Later today, we will experience the first coast-to-coast solar eclipse in almost 100 years!

From Oregon to South Carolina, the total solar eclipse — which is when the moon crosses between the Earth and the sun effectively blocks out the sun’s light — will darken skies and provide revelatory visuals.

WHEN IS THE SOLAR ECLIPSE 2017?

The solar eclipse will take place on August 21st.

WHAT TIME IS THE SOLAR ECLIPSE 2017?

Weather permitting, everyone in the USA will be able to see at least a partial eclipse. USA reports that the show will start in Oregon at 9:05 a.m. and that the last glimpse of the moon’s shadow will fade out near Charleston, S.C. at 4:10 p.m. ET.

Accuweather has a helpful map you can utilize to see when you can catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse, and Vox has a helpful tool in which you can type in your zip code to find out when you can expect to see the eclipse in your area.

WHERE CAN I FIND A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE LIVE STREAM?

There are many ways to watch a live stream of the solar eclipse! The New York Times is offering a YouTube live stream that we’ve embedded below.

NASA will host a live stream of the solar eclipse 2017 beginning at 12:00 pm ET on their Facebook page. The first hour will feature an Eclipse Preview Show followed by Solar Eclipse: Through the Eyes of Nasa at 1:00 pm ET, which will feature live views of the eclipse from viewers, spacecrafts, and three NASA aircrafts. Beginning at 1:15 pm ET, NASA will feature a unique 4K resolution 360 Facebook Live from Charleston, South Carolina of the solar eclipse. The totality of the solar eclipse should occur around 2:45 pm ET, with the stream concluding around 4:15 pm ET.

Facebook isn’t the only place to catch the solar eclipse! Twitter is teaming with the Weather Channel to live stream this once in a lifetime event. The stream will begin at 12:00 pm ET and it will include live footage from cities in Idaho, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Kentucky, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wyoming. You can follow the stream on Twitter (following this link), the Weather Channel app, on Weather.com.

You can also stream CBS News’ coverage of the event on CBS News’ 24-hour streaming platform, CBSN, beginning at 12:00 pm. From 1:00 to 3:00 PM, CBS News’ Facebook page will be streaming a CBS Special Report during the celestial phenomenon.

But wait, there’s more! CNN will present the solar eclipse in a 360 degree virtual reality live stream beginning at 1:00 pm ET. The historic virtual reality event will be available in 4K resolution at CNN.com/eclipse, CNN’s mobile apps, Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus, Oculus Rift via Oculus Video, and through CNN’s Facebook page (via Facebook Live 360).

Finally, the website Exploratorium is also hosting a free live stream of the solar eclipse, and ABC will air a two-hour special on the eclipse beginning at 1 PM EDT. The broadcast will air on ABCNEWS.go.com/live, Facebook Live, and YouTube.
