Unlike traditional television broadcasters, streaming services don’t usually reveal their shows’ ratings to the general public. Though the three biggest streaming platforms spend billions each year on developing new content, Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu have always remained notoriously tight-lipped on just how many viewers their original programs bring in.
Unfortunately, this policy hasn’t changed. But! Lucky for us, the folks at Parrot Analytics have created a formula to measure “demand expressions.” And while the term “demand expressions” may sound like complete nonsense, it actually utilizes a pretty ingenious method of measuring a show’s streams, viewers, engagement, and more.
It’s from this data that The Hollywood Reporter shared the five most popular shows that each of the three biggest streaming services has to offer:
Amazon
Netflix
Hulu
Hulu’s most watched show, The Handmaid’s Tale, won the Emmy award for Outstanding Drama Series on Sept 17.
Netflix’s number one, Narcos, released its critically acclaimed third season on Sept 1.
Amazon’s winner, The Man in the High Castle, released a new teaser for its upcoming third season at NY Comic-Con yesterday.
