Kingsman: The Golden Circle

2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service was a surprise winter hit, delivering outrageous spy action like an overactive James Bond installment. A sequel was bound to happen, and it did! Taron Egerton and Colin Firth reprise their roles from the original, and their joined by representatives from the Kingsmen’s American counterparts. Representing for the U. S. of A.? Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, and Jeff Bridges! This follow-up is definitely a star-studded way to spend a Saturday afternoon, for sure.

Detroit

Kathryn Bigelow’s follow-up to the controversial Zero Dark Thirty was no less controversial. Set during the Detroit riots of 1967, this relentless film pushes audiences to uncomfortable and upsetting places, with the turmoil of 2017 making the violent events of 50 years ago feel all the more resonant and relevant. The film also allowed favorite sci-fi actors John Boyega and Anthony Mackie to show off the depth of their acting abilities.

Winnebago Man

What happens to the people that become a meme? That’s the complicated question that this doc asks about one of the pioneers of memedom, the Winnebago Man. Salesperson Jack Rebney had one bad day while shooting a commercial for winnebagos, and his life changed forever–well, it changed forever a few decades later after the internet got hold of the outtakes. His angry outbursts entertained millions and made him an unwitting pop culture icon, but how did Rebney really feel about becoming famous for something he never wanted anyone to see? This documentary asks those tough questions (while also being a fun watch).
