Tyler Perry’s Acrimony

Powered by Reelgood

It is finally Friday, and that means that the end of the work week is in sight! Heck, if you have summer Fridays, the end of the work week might be tapping you on the shoulder right now. The weekend is practically here, and that means you have a few days of chillaxing ahead of you–and that means you can finally catch up on movies! Whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu, or your cable’s on demand service, there are always a lot of new releases out there waiting for you to discover!

A lot of major movies are now available to rent, which is good to know if you didn’t feel like paying full price a few weeks ago. Among them are the gay (in every sense of the word) high school romcom Love, Simon, and Disney’s adaptation of the out of this world adventure A Wrinkle in Time. If the kids are hankering for some garden gnome action, Sherlock Gnomes is now available to rent for the weekend. And if you’re looking for action that’s a little (okay, a lot) more mature than Gnomes, you can team-up with Tomb Raider for just a few bucks!

What else can you buy or rent this week? Find out by taking a look at the collection of intense thrillers, dino adventures, and religious dramas now available for you to enjoy from the comfort of your very own home!

Tyler Perry’s Acrimony

If re-bingeing Empire over and over again doesn’t give you enough of queen Taraji P. Henson, you can now add in this thriller from writer/director Tyler Perry into the mix. Henson stars as a devoted wife that goes on a mission of vengeance when she finally gets proof that her husband is a dirty cheater. This thriller is a far cry from Perry’s more heartwarming material, but it does feature Henson reading men for filth and brandishing an axe so–! A warning: if you want to rent this one, you’ll have to wait until June 26.

The Jurassic Games

I know what you’re thinking: this looks like a cheapo knock-off created to capitalize on the release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. You are not wrong! That is exactly what it is! Why else do you think a movie called Jurassic Games was released on VOD just a week before the Jurassic World sequel opens? But here’s the twist: Jurassic Games has an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes while Fallen Kingdom is hovering around a 60%. Does that mean you should look to this Hunger Games-with-dinosaurs sci-fi flick for your prehistoric summer entertainment? Maybe?! It’s your call!

Coneheads

Twenty-five years ago this summer, the Saturday Night Live craze reached the point where a feature film based on a nearly 20-year-old sketch became commercially viable–well, to a point. Coneheads was nowhere near as successful as the previous year’s Wayne’s World, and in fact it wouldn’t even be as successful as late ’90s SNL movies Superstar or A Night at the Roxbury. But whatever–this movie stars Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin as the monotone aliens from “France” and you can rent it for just under a buck! If that doesn’t sound like a decent way for a comedy fan to spend a weekend morning, I don’t know what is.
