Are you ready to get spooked? One of October’s biggest Netflix titles, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, debuts this weekend, and it will satisfy all your Halloween desires (plus a few non-Halloween ones: helloooo cute teens!). But buyers beware, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is not your mother’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The Netflix series promises dark moments, demonic forces, and some thrilling teenage drama, so don’t expect to see a friendly talking cat any time soon.

If you’re looking for something a little more timely, don’t miss Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, Netflix’s newest foray into the talk-show space. Patriot Act follows the comedian as he investigates topical issues and provides a unique spin on the news, with new episodes debuting every Sunday. Not feeling Netflix? Head over to HBO for a Saturday night screening of The Post, Steven Spielberg’s historical political thriller. With great performances from Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, and her caftans, this is one Oscar-bait-y film that’s definitely worth the hype.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Season 1

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is one of Netflix’s biggest releases of the fall, and for good reason: it’s freaking awesome. The series follows Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) as she chooses between the regular world and the supernatural world on her 16th birthday. Sabrina tries to straddle both realms, but forces on both sides make that increasingly difficult, and it’s not long before the stakes become life-or-death. Our Meghan O’Keefe described Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as a “dark, feminist Halloween treat,” so be sure not to miss this spooky take on a beloved classic.

Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj: Season 1

“Think of a funny investigative report, meets comedy show, meets political satire, meets Malcolm Gladwell, but funny, and it’s on a bunch of screens like a Drake concert,” Hasan Minhaj told Queer Eye‘s Tan France. You definitely know what to expect now, right? In Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, the former Daily Show correspondent provides his own take on the news through satire segments, interviews, and desk bits. Netflix has already committed to 32 episodes of the series, so it seems like the streamer is more confident about Minhaj’s talk show than they were about recently-canceled series The Break with Michelle Wolf and The Joel McHale Show.

The Post

The Post takes place in the early 1970s, but it couldn’t be more timely. Steven Spielberg’s film follows executive editor of the Washington Post Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks) and publisher Katherine Graham (Meryl Streep) as they face a daunting decision about whether to publish the classified Pentagon Papers. Sure, we all know what they decide — they publish the documents and are forced to defend themselves before the Supreme Court — but Spielberg still manages to make their agonizing choice engaging as hell. In addition to great performances from Hanks and Streep, The Post features supporting turns from Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Bradley Whitford, and more A-list stars, so go ahead and it to your weekend queue ASAP.
