FX on Hulu: Everything You Need to Know

Your Hulu account just got a lot more awesome. Today marks the launch of FX on Hulu, the cable network’s new partnership with the streaming giant. That means starting now you can watch most of your favorite introspective dramas and outrageous comedies without once worrying about a cable subscription.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Fargo. Atlanta. Archer. American Horror Story. What We Do in the Shadows. New episodes of all are about to be available to watch on your Hulu account without making you pay a cent more. Here’s everything you need to know about all the new, currently running, and ended FX shows you can start binge watching.

What Is FX on Hulu?

For years now FX has stood as one of the most critically acclaimed networks on television, but it’s suffered from a chink in its armor. In an age dominated by streaming, it’s been hard for viewers to access FX without a cable subscription. Fortunately all of that is changing and in the process one of your streaming services is about to get a lot more exciting. Starting on March 2, Hulu will become FX’s new streaming hub.

FX’s original shows will start appearing on the streaming service in one of three ways. The first is through legacy content. Starting this March complete seasons of 17 of the networks dramas, comedies, and limited series will be added to the streaming giant. The second addition will allow for next day streaming. Certain currently running FX originals will premiere episodes on the network before being added to Hulu the following day. The current plan is for the first two episodes of a new season to premiere on FX before becoming available to stream on Hulu the next day. After that new episodes will be available on FX then Hulu on a weekly basis. Before this deal FX originals were only added to streaming once a season had concluded. But it’s the third option that’s the most exciting. This spring four FX series will premiere and live exclusively on Hulu. That means viewers will get access to FX’s high caliber of televised storytelling for the price of their Hulu subscription.

“We’re thrilled to have Hulu as our streaming partner with the creation of FX on Hulu, which will be the best and most complete representation of the FX brand, finally putting us on equal footing with competitors like HBO.  This will allow us to expand FX’s original programming lineup and to reach Hulu’s growing audience of young and highly engaged subscribers, whom we believe will love these shows,” Chairman of FX Networks and FX Productions said in a press release. “We are more committed than ever to quality over quantity, with our primary focus on excellence that can cut through the clutter at a time of unprecedented consumer choice.”

Do I Need a Separate Subscription for FX on Hulu? Is FX on Hulu Free?

You bet it’s free. As long as you have a Hulu account — Hulu Live, Hulu commercial free, Hulu with commercials — you already have access to stream FX’s originals.

What FX Shows Are Missing from FX on Hulu?

As impressive as this collection is, it’s still not complete. Ignoring FX’s few reality series over the years, there are a total of 21 original comedies, drama, and miniseries that will not be coming to Hulu during this first wave of content.

Some of those disappearances likely have to do with deals other streaming services have with FX. For example, it’s been reported that Netflix purchased the global rights to American Crime Story and Pose. On a more controversial note, the network has also been vocal about not putting Louie on streaming in the wake of Louis C.K. sexual assault scandal. But those exceptions aside, there are still several FX originals that could potentially come to Hulu in the coming months.

Here’s the list of every FX show that’s currently missing from the FX on Hulu deal:

  • American Crime Story
  • The Americans
  • Anger Management
  • The Bridge
  • Chozen
  • The Dick & Paula Celebrity Special
  • Dirt
  • Feud: Bette and Joan
  • Lights Out
  • Louie
  • Luck
  • Over There
  • Partners
  • Pose
  • Son of a Beach
  • Starved
  • Testees
  • Totally Biased with W. Kumau Bell
  • Unsupervised
