The world’s first family is back again in The Croods: A New Age, the follow-up film to 2013’s The Croods. The second film reunites Grug (Nicolas Cage), Eep (Emma Stone), Guy (Ryan Reynolds), and Ugga (Catherine Keener), but introduces a brand new crew with the Bettermans, a family that makes the Croods reconsider everything they thought they knew about themselves and their world.

The Croods 2 follows the prehistoric family’s discovery of a more evolved, rival family composed of Hope (Leslie Mann), Phil (Peter Dinklage), and Dawn (Kelly Marie Tran), who introduce the Croods to a whole new way of living. The Bettermans and the Croods begin to clash as their differences become more apparent with each day, but the families have to forget all about the tension and team up to save Eep and Dawn when they escape the Betterman’s enclosed paradise.

The Croods: A New Age was originally set to premiere in theaters in 2017, and after many delays plus a global pandemic, it’s finally arrived. Here’s everything you need to know to watch The Croods: A New Age at home.

THE CROODS 2 STREAMING RELEASE DATE: WHEN DOES THE CROODS 2 COME OUT?

The Croods: A New Age hits theaters this Wednesday, Nov. 25, but it’s likely to land on demand in the coming weeks. Back in July, AMC and Universal struck a deal that drastically shortened theatrical windows for films, cutting it down to just 17 days in theaters before films can debut on demand. If Universal decides to release The Croods 2 when the 17-day window is up, we could see the movie on VOD as soon as Friday, Dec. 11. (UPDATE: As of December 11, this title is still not available for home rental or purchase, but you can pre-order the Blu-Ray.) Universal has yet to announce an official VOD or streaming release date for The Croods sequel, but we’ll keep you posted.

WHEN WILL THE CROODS 2 COME OUT ON NETFLIX?

The Croods 2 has no current plans to head to Netflix, but that certainly doesn’t mean it won’t land there eventually. The deal between AMC and Universal only extends to VOD, not streaming platforms like Netflix or Hulu, so you won’t be seeing The Croods 2 in your Netflix library next month. The typical window between when a film premieres in theaters and when it debuts on Netflix is anywhere between a couple of months to a year, but it seems like Netflix is grabbing films quicker than usual. Just recently, both After We Collided and Yes, God, Yes landed on Netflix not long after they premiered in theaters or on VOD.

HOW TO WATCH THE CROODS 2 AT HOME:

Right now, there is no simple, legal way to watch The Croods 2 at home since Universal has decided on a theatrical release. But, you’re likely to see the movie premiere on VOD in the next month, and we have a suggestion for what you can stream from the comfort of your home in the meantime — both the original Croods movie and Dawn of the Croods series are now streaming on Netflix.
