Happy New Year, everybody! We’re all hoping for many good things to come in 2021 and are already off to a great start with our very first Woman Crush Wednesday of the year. As we look on towards the future, we’re celebrating a talented young woman whose current big role is someone from the past (19th century America, to be exact). But whether it’s characters living in the past, present, or future, this actress can play ’em all and play ’em well. Give it up for 2021’s first WCW, the amazing Anna Baryshnikov!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Anna Baryshnikov

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Baryshnikov returns to reprise her role as Lavinia “Vinnie” Dickinson in the sophomore season of Apple TV+ Original Series Dickinson, which premieres on the platform this Friday, January 8th. Two years after its first season premiered, the coming-of-age historical comedy-drama that puts a modern and fictionalized spin on the life and times of celebrated 19th century American poet Emily Dickinson (Hailee Steinfeld) and her fmaily returns with three new episodes streamable on the 8th, and new episodes coming out weekly on Fridays until February 26th. This newest season will bring about big changes for not only Emily, but also for her siblings Austin (Adrian Enscoe) and Lavinia, and we can expect to see even more depth and drama from the two than we have before.

Dickinson‘s second season has already received plenty of praise and positive reviews from CulturessIndieWire, us here at Decider, and more, so see what all of the hype is about by checking out Baryshnikov and the rest of the cast’s amazing work in Dickinson: Season 2 as soon as it drops, only on Apple TV+!

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Baryshnikov’s professional onscreen career in 2008 video short The Painter, and she took a few years after that to go through school, graduating from Northwestern University in 2014 before diving back into performing headfirst starting with a one-episode guest role in a 2015 episode of crime comedy series The Mysteries of Laura. From there, she appeared in episodes of shows like Doll & Em and Blue Bloods in 2015 and in 2016 comedy-drama film Wiener-Dog before getting her first big break as Sandy in Academy Award-nominated 2016 drama film Manchester by the Sea.

Since then, Baryshnikov has accrued roles in television series like Amazon Prime Video drama Good Girls Revolt and CBS comedy Superior Donuts, in movies like 2018 drama The Kindergarten Teacher and 2019 drama Josie & Jack, and appeared as a guest on big talk-shows like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Late Night with Seth Meyers. She continues to put in consistently wonderful work across the board year after year, and we have no doubt that she still has a long and exciting career to come, so keep an eye out for this star as she continues to crush it on screens big and small!

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Luckily, you won’t have to wait too much longer to see more of Baryshnikov’s great work! She will play Judi Markovich in thriller film Payback, which tells the tale of a young stockbroker at a Mob-controlled Wall Street firm who gets betrayed and sent to prison for six years; When he gets out, he seeks revenge. The movie, which also stars Matt Levett and Toby Leonard Moore, is expected to be released later this year.
