The core cast of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy has scored a substantial pay raise ahead of the sci-fi drama’s third season. According to Variety, six of the show’s stars — Tom Hopper, David CastaƱeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min — came together to lobby Netflix and UCP for a pay raise and were successful. As a result, each star will now earn more than $200,000 per episode throughout The Umbrella Academy Season 3, which is expected to begin production this month.

Sources close to the situation tell Variety that star Elliot Page has also received a pay raise ahead of the show’s third season, but did not participate in the group’s contract negotiation. However, Page, who came into The Umbrella Academy with a higher rate due to his previous work, was reportedly supportive of the renegotiation efforts.

Decider has reached out to Netflix for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.

An adaptation of Gerard Way’s comic book series of the same name, The Umbrella Academy has been a top performer for Netflix since it first debuted in early 2019. After amassing a large audience in its first season (Netflix claims that the series was watched by 45 million households in its first month on the platform), viewership exploded with Season 2. In August 2020, The Umbrella Academy‘s second season, which debuted July 31, topped Nielsen’s first-ever streaming rankings with more 3 billion minutes streamed during the week of August 3 to August 9. At CES 2021, Nielsen revealed that The Umbrella Academy ranked sixth in the most-streamed original series of 2020, a list that also includes hits like OzarkTiger King, and Disney+’s The Mandalorian.

According to Variety, creator Steve Blackman will return as showrunner and executive producer for The Umbrella Academy Season 3, with Jeff F. King (who also directs), Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Jesse McKeown also executive producing. Comic book author Gerard Way and illustrator Gabriel BĆ” serve as co-executive producers. The Umbrella Academy is produced by UCP for Netflix.
