This year’s Golden Globes red carpet doesn’t look like awards shows of the past, and it’s not just because of stars joining in for interviews by Zoom. A longtime fixture of the red carpet is also missing from this year’s show — fans looking to see Ryan Seacrest on tonight’s Golden Globes red carpet might miss the longtime host this evening.

Seacrest, who has been a part of pre-awards shows for years, won’t be in his usual spot interviewing celebs like Carey Mulligan and Jane Levy. Instead, tonight’s E! pre-awards show is led by Giuliana Rancic and Queer Eye star Karamo Brown.

WHY ISN’T RYAN SEACREST ON THE GOLDEN GLOBES RED CARPET?

Seacrest didn’t just skip tonight’s carpet on a whim. The longtime host announced a few weeks ago that he’d be stepping away from his role as red carpet correspondent for E!, sharing the news with his followers in an Instagram post.

“After 14 years of hosting E!’s Live from the Red Carpet I’ve decided to move on to new adventures,” Seacrest posted on Instagram Feb. 4. “I’ll miss the whole crew that works so hard behind the scenes and of course my amazing partner Giuliana. Thanks to everyone for watching all these years.”

In a statement issued the day of Seacrest’s announcement, E! confirmed the longtime host’s exit from his red carpet gig. “E! has long enjoyed our relationship with Ryan over the years especially as co-host of E!’s signature red carpet series,” the network stated, per People. “He has been instrumental in giving viewers a front row seat to some of Hollywood’s biggest nights. We are extremely appreciative of his many contributions and he will always be part of the E! family.”

While Seacrest left his red carpet hosting duties, he’s still keeping plenty busy. He still hosts American Idol, now in its 19th season, has his own radio show, “On Air with Ryan Seacrest,” and also co-hosts the morning show Live With Kelly and Ryan with Kelly Ripa.
