The very first teaser for Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers premiered during the 2021 Oscars telecast, showing off Nicole Kidman as a twisted self-help guru messing with an all-star cast. Melissa McCarthy, Regina Hall, Samara Weaving, Luke Evans, Michael Shannon and Bobby Cannavale are just some of the lost souls who are bound to get way more than they bargained for. The thirty second clip didn’t reveal too much about the details of the limited series, but promised viewers Big Little Lies-levels of drama. After all, the series is based on a book by Liane Moriarty, aka the best-selling author of Big Little Lies.

According to Hulu, Nine Perfect Strangers “takes place at a boutique health-and-wellness resort that promises healing and transformation as nine stressed city dwellers try to get on a path to a better way of living.” However, it turns out that the resort’s director, Masha (Nicole Kidman), has something a little more out there in mind than just some hot yoga and meditation. As Hulu promises, or warns, “these nine “perfect” strangers have no idea what is about to hit them.”

When will Nicole Kidman’s Nine Perfect Strangers Premiere on Hulu?

The first three episodes of Nine Perfect Strangers will premiere on Hulu on Wednesday, August 18. Subsequent episodes will premiere weekly after that on Wednesdays.

Who’s Who in the Nine Perfect Strangers Cast?

Nicole Kidman plays Masha in Nine Perfect Strangers, who is a mysterious Russian woman in charge of “the Tranquillum House,” the location of a 10-day retreat. The series will follow the following nine titular strangers who all attend the retreat:

Melissa McCarthy as Frances, a romance novelist in the Liane Moriarty book
Bobby Cannavale as Tony, who is “a former Australian rules football star” in the book, but we
assume that will be changed
Samara Weaving as Jessica, who became consumed with plastic-surgery after winning the lottery in the book
Melvin Gregg as Ben, Jessica’s husband
Regina Hall as Carmel, who was jilted by her husband for a younger woman in the book (and seems worse for wear in the trailer)
Luke Evans as Lars, a spa-obsessive
Michael Shannon as Napoleon, a man who’s lost one of his twin children
Asher Keddie as Heather, Napoleon’s wife
Grace Van Patten as Zoe, their surviving twin

Is Nine Perfect Strangers Connected to Big Little Lies?

Yes! Well, sort of. Both shows are based on books by Liane Moriarty and both were produced by Nicole Kidman and David E. Kelley. This marks Kidman and Kelley’s second post-BLL project after The Undoing. The only thing Nine Perfect Strangers is missing is Reese Witherspoon!
