In the mood to watch some fourth-wall-breaking humor? Modern Family has got you covered. The long-running ABC sitcom may have reached its end just last year, but that doesn’t mean it’s still incredibly bingeable. Still, if you’re looking for a new show just like Modern Family, there are options similar to stream once you’ve watched your way through all eleven top-notch seasons. We can help guide you to the right places.

In its first five years on ABC, Modern Family earned the prize for Outstanding Comedy Series each time, blowing the genre out of the water with its quirky mockumentary take on the sitcom. It’s been parodied, referenced, paid homage to in a number of famous series — like Marvel’s recent WandaVision, which, yes, is on this list.

NBC’s This is Us is a drama, not a comedy, but it echos Modern Family in the way it frames up its intergenerational cast of characters. This sprawling story encompasses the Pearson family over their lives (and across multiple decades). The Big Three are a trio of kids raised by their loving mother and father — but it’s not all conventional. One child is adopted, the other two are twins. The show deftly navigates between the kids in their younger lives and into their adult years with families of their own.

Sam Fox, a single mother with three daughters and an acting gig, is the unfiltered, hilarious lead of Better Things. If you loved the vibrant family dynamics of Modern Family, you’re sure to enjoy the gals of Better Things just as well. Sam’s also in charge of her own mother, who lives pretty close by — across the street, actually. As Sam mothers her girls, she tries to love them hard enough, still pushing them out of the nest and into the real world.

Think Modern Family with a Marvel twist — that’s WandaVision. Well, WandaVision for one episode, at least. The whole show treks through decades worth of TV history, mimicking series like The Brady Bunch and Malcolm in the Middle. When the show nears the end, it ventures into 2000s-10s territory, tapping into some Modern Family documentary interview-style goodness. Cast Scarlet Witch in the inevitable Modern Family revival, cowards!

Netflix’s One Day at a Time (which was canceled by the streaming giant, only to be rescued by Pop TV … and then canceled again) is a reboot of Norman Lear’s iconic series, reimagined with a Cuban-American family at its center. This time around, the saga unfurls around Penelope (Justine Machado), an army vet who faces the ups and downs of life with her loving family. Now a busy nurse, Penelope turns back to her own mother to help her raise her children and confront the burdens of a family.

Fresh Off the Boat is based on Eddie Huang’s novel of the same name, and the show takes a humorous look at the lives of immigrants in America over a handful of years. In the 1990s, Eddie and his family move from Washington, D.C. to the suburbs of Orlando, Florida — it’s a real continental divide between these two states for the family. Eddie’s father pursues his dream of opening a steakhouse, leading the entire family to back his decisions and support him — occasionally.

NBC truly has all the family dramedies one could ever want! If you have already watched and enjoyed our previous recommendation This Is Us, why not check out Parenthood as well? The series follows the Braverman siblings as they share their joys, heartaches, wins, and losses raising families in their sunny California hometown. As their parents marriage hits a rocky spot, the four lean on one another to get over heartbreak and arguments. The show is a reimagining of the 1989 comedy film of the same name, which stars Steve Martin.

'Happy Endings'

Happy Endings is less family than it is friends, but it’s still so fun — even for Modern Family fans. What is a friend group, if not a true modern family? The saga follows two sisters, their friends, and their romances, all in one tidy-ish friend group. When one of them leaves their fiancée at the alter, all hell breaks loose in the friend group. Can they repair everything and get over their differences, or will they fall back in love and make everything even worse? The sardonic humor and quick wit is perfect for all Modern Family lovers.
