As we round out the first batch of conservative guest hosts on The View, a new player has entered the ring — and viewers are pretty displeased by her. Former Fox News journalist Gretchen Carlson tapped into the panel today, bickering with permanent host Sunny Hostin and leaving audiences with a bitter taste in their mouths. After spending a good chunk of her opening monologue discussing her commitment to ending workplace harassment, fans of The View were quick to write off Carlson as “fake and over the top.”

Carlson began her stint as guest host by discussing her bipartisan bill to end forced arbitration for sexual harassment and assault cases. “I started hearing from thousands of women and I realized what my next calling in life was — which was to make the workplace safer for women, people of color, the LGBTQ community, and that’s what I’m doing,” Carlson began.

But viewers were quick to bring up her history of controversy as the Miss America chairwoman, in which she reportedly bullied contestants. Further, folks slammed her for claiming to create an organization called “Lift Our Voices,” a title not too far off from the Black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

“Gretchen’s enthusiasm about confronting sexual harassment seems a bit fake and over the top, I’m sure she’s being genuine but I don’t know…” one Twitter user shared.

And the poor hosting abilities didn’t end there. As the hosts rounded into their second hot topic of the day — independents losing their faith in President Joe Biden — Carlson got into a bit of a tiff with Hostin. Carlson called herself an “independent” and began discussing Biden’s shortcomings, but Hostin was quick to slam her statements, saying: “That sounds very republican of you.” Ouch!

The View audiences, of course, sounded off about this moment. “Sunny will always say what everyone else is afraid to say,” one viewer tweeted.”‘That sounded very republican of you’ is perfect. Because it did.”

There’s good and bad news for The View audiences. We’ll start with the bad: we’re going to have to sit through one more day of Carlson, who will return as guest host on tomorrow’s (10/26) taping. But the good? After that, she’s not set to return at all.

The View airs weekdays on ABC at 11/10c.
