‘Below Deck’ Recap: This Whiskey Dick Has Got To Go

I love a drunken charter guest just as much as the next guy! But the most recent Below Deck charter guest is not just drunk — he’s dangerous.

On the latest episode of the Bravo series, we meet Michael Durham, a real estate broker from Seattle, Washington “with an appreciation for fine whiskey.” His preference sheet also states that “He’s excited to be pampered by the crew and get wild with his friends and colleagues.” Sounds fun enough…until we meet those colleagues.

Captain Lee continues to read, “Joining Michael are his other broker friends, Justin and Terri, who work together at the same firm and have each chartered yachts before.” Justin Richards may have chartered yachts before, but something tells me this might be his last.

A quick glance at his preference sheet tells us that his favorite cuisines include “Thai, American fare, and Mexican food” and for snacks, he wants “Strawberries & chocolate (I usually don’t eat candy…but I like Almond Joy).” With all due to the candy bar, I’ve heard enough.

Except it only gets worse with each passing minute and sips of whiskey. This group is already hammered by the time they get to the yacht, which is apparent when Justin is offered a cold towel and he responds by saying, “I’m gonna slap somebody with a towel.” An absolutely inappropriate response.

During the tour of the boat, he boasts, “Find me passed out there about every damn day,” when it comes to the bridge deck aft, and when chief stew Heather instructs the group to “Come down this way,” he responds by saying, “I will do whatever the fuck I want.” Oh, and that’s after he has already told his co-worker Terri that “I’ll kick you down the goddamn stairs.” We learn that the group polished off an entire bottle of Titos before boarding, but that is no excuse for this language whatsoever. And if you pay close attention, though the group has only been on the boat for a matter of minutes, despite having whiskey in his hands (in his requested thermal cup) and a gorgeous vacation in front of him, Justin never smiles once. And his extreme anger and aggression only get worse.

During dinner he continues to bully Terri, saying things like, “Has anybody ever told her we can’t take her anywhere?” and “Jesus Terri, you went to college? I wouldn’t know it by your mouth.” The other charter guests tell him to STFU and like a big dumb baby, he storms away from the table and goes to sit on the swim platform to pout and eat his dinner alone so he’s not with the “kiss asses.”

After an excruciating dinner, Captain Lee tells the crew of Justin, “That boy is just flat out rude,” which is the nicest possible thing that could be said about him. Justin continues to drunkenly bicker with Terri, each telling the other to “go fuck yourself,” and the crew watches on until it gets really ugly.

“I’m gonna walk you back to your fucking room and you’re gonna shut the fuck up,” he says, again, to a woman that is his co-worker. “Get your ass up and get the fuck down these stairs,” and “Hurry up pitter-patter motherfucker, let’s go,” are actual sentences that come out of his mouth. Heather accurately states in her interview, “I’m just nervous somethings gonna happen that we can’t control.”

Justin goes on to tell the chief stew that Terri “needs to go away now,” and as Eddie Lucas observes, “Justin is just out of control and overly aggressive. This is absolutely unacceptable behavior from a charter guest. It’s dangerous.” Eddie even has to physically put his body in between the two as Justin threatens, “Fuck yourself and throw yourself off the boat.”

This is straight-up scary. The way he speaks to others is beyond horrifying, and we can only hope the crew alert Captain Lee so that Justin is promptly removed from the yacht for his abhorrent behavior.
