Marry Me (2022)

Powered by Reelgood

It’s an eclectic mix out movies that are new on VOD this week. You’ve got your blockbusters, like Marry Me, the romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson, which debuted on Peacock last month and is now widely available on VOD. Then you’ve got your religious horror in The Exorcism of God, about a priest played by Will Beinbrink who botches an exorcism and has to deal with the consequences.

And, chances are, the only pop culture touchstone you have for Helen Keller is The Miracle Worker which was made in 1962 and starred Patty Duke as the deaf and blind woman who learned how to communicate and eventually became known around the world for the feat. But the new documentary Her Socialist Smile seeks to change what you know, or thought you knew, about Keller, who devoted years of her life to progressive causes. The film, directed by documentarian John Gianvito shows off an often suppressed side to Keller, who was an avowed socialist and was vocal about the fight for women’s rights, an advocate for the disabled, and spoke publicly about her socialist views.

These are just a few of the titles that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now!

Marry Me

Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson have starred in some of the biggest romantic comedies of the past two decades, and now they star together in what might be the perfect rom-com for the digital age. Lopez plays Kat Valdez, a global superstar whose wedding to another superstar is arranged to be livestreamed for all the world to see. On the night of the ceremony, she discovers that he’s cheated, so she does the next logical thing and, with the whole world watching, she picks a rando (Wilson) out of the audience and marries him instead. It’s a 21st century meet-cute, and despite the bizarre circumstances, the pair tries to make it work.

The Exorcism Of God

In director Alejandro Hidalgo’s The Exorcism Of God, Father Peter Williams (Will Beinbrink) is an American priest working in Mexico. At the beginning of the film, he’s ordered to conduct an exorcism that doesn’t go as it should. Goaded by the demon that possessed the girl he was meant to cure, he sexually assaults her, and for the rest of the film, Williams carries that with him, and seems unable to live with himself for it. Nearly two decades later, the priest must face the demon again and make things right, if he can.
