Ray Liotta, ‘Goodfellas’ Star, Dead at 67

Ray Liotta, an actor known for Goodfellas, has died. The actor died Thursday at age 67, Deadline and TMZ report. Liotta reportedly died in his sleep in the Dominican Republic, where he was filming Dangerous Waters.

TMZ reports Liotta’s death was not suspicous, and “no foul play is suspected.”

Over his decades-long career, Liotta starred in hits like Field of Dreams, Unlawful Entry, Copland, Hannibal and Something Wild, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for his role as Ray Sinclair. While he built an impressive list of credits, his most famous role was playing mobster Henry Hill in Goodfellas, the 1990 Martin Scorcese drama where he starred alongside Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci.

Liotta was born in 1954 in New Jersey and later attended the University of Miami, where he studied acting, according to his IMDb biography. His first screen credit is listed as 1980’s Hardhat and Legs, a TV movie in which he played Family.

He went on to appear in the TV movie Crazy Times and the series Another World, before booking roles in St. Elsewhere, Casablanca, The New Mike Hammer and Our Family Honor. Following his film breakout in Something Wild, Liotta appeared in more movies, including Dominick and Eugene, Article 99, Unlawful Entry, No Escape, Unforgettable and Turbulence.

While he built up an impressive array of movie roles, Liotta continued to make TV appearances on series like Frasier, Family Guy, ER, Smith and children’s programs like SpongeBob SquarePants and Hannah Montana. In more recent years, Liotta appeared in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Young Sheldon, The Simpsons and Shades of Blue, and acted in films like Marriage Story and Hubie Halloween.

Last year was especially busy for Liotta, who starred in the Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark, as well as No Sudden Move and the TV series Hanna. He will posthumously appear in the show Black Bird and in the film El Tonto.

Liotta is survived by his daughter, Karsen, and his fiancée, Jacy Nittolo.
