WHO’S THAT GAL: Lauren London

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: London stars as Amira Mohammed in the upcoming Netflix Original title You People, which premieres on the platform this Friday, January 27. The buddy comedy film follows a new couple and their families as they’re forced to re-examine family dynamics and what it takes to navigate the sometimes rocky landscape of modern love. And if that doesn’t seem complicated enough, they are all further tested by societal expectations, clashing cultures and backgrounds, and generational differences.

Co-written by Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill, You People stars London, Hill, Eddie Murphy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Nia Long, and Sam Jay. Make sure to catch all of their great work by viewing this highly-anticipated new film dropping this week, only on Netflix.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: London’s professional onscreen career began with music videos, namely cameos in Ludacris’s (feat. Shawnna) “Stand Up” in 2003 and Pharrell’s (feat. Jay-Z) “Frontin'” in 2003, and Snoop Dogg’s (feat. Pharrell) “Drop It Like It’s Hot” in 2004. She then made her jump to film and TV come 2006, when she appeared in an episode of Everybody Hates Chris and as Erin “New New” Garnett in coming-of-age comedy-drama movie ATL. By 2013, London cemented herself as a household name thanks to beginning her recurring role as Keira Whitaker in The CW romantic comedy-drama series The Game (on which she acted until 2015) and playing Sheree Moore in romantic-comedy film Baggage Claim that very year. She only continued to crush it thereafter, with even more TV work on RebelThe TalkHip Hop Squares, and Games People Play, plus roles in films like 2016 romantic-comedy The Perfect Match, 2018 family TV movie Poinsettias for Christmas, and 2020 thriller Always and Forever.
