Bridgerton‘s original love birds have both officially flown the coop. Season 1 standout Phoebe Dynevor just confirmed that she will not be returning as Daphne in Bridgerton Season 3. This means that both Daphne and her Duke (Regé-Jean Page) are done with the Netflix hit. For now… You see, unlike Regé-Jean Page, whose exit from the series broke hearts all over the world, Dynevor has already made it clear that she’s totally open to return to the Netflix hit at some point in the future.

While promoting her new film Fair Play at the Sundance Film Festival, Dynevor was asked by ScreenRant what she was most looking forward to for Daphne in the new season of Bridgerton. “Ooo… Sadly not in Bridgerton Season 3. Potentially in the future. But yeah, Season 3, I’m just excited to watch as a viewer,” she said.

So, yeah, Daphne will not be showing up to chastise Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) for being an ass this season. She won’t be passing her adorable baby around the parlor for kicks. At no point will Daphne Basset have to come up with some excuse for why her devoted husband Simon is AWOL in a time when women were basically tied to their husband’s waistcoats. Daphne will not be in Bridgerton Season 3, okay?

And that’s fine!

As I outlined when Page left the show in 2021, Bridgerton is way more than just the Duke and Daphne. The show will be able to endure just fine without Daphne and the Duke hovering in the background of every group shot. Because, essentially, that’s all Daphne and her Duke do in the books after they find their “happily ever after.” Anthony and his wife Kate (Simone Ashley) still have active roles to play in future storylines because Anthony is the head of the family. Any and every Bridgerton sibling who wants to marry their one true love has to go through him for approval. Daphne and the Duke are just making love on library staircases and popping out more heirs Simon thought he never wanted.

The good news is that Phoebe Dynevor hasn’t totally closed the door on Bridgerton. She could still have a juicy cameo in Season 4 or beyond. Moreover, Netflix isn’t done with Dynevor. Netflix has already bought the rights to Dynevor’s new film Fair Play for a whopping $20 million. At some point in the next year, you’ll get to watch Dynevor shed blushing bride Daphne in exchange for an ambitious Wall Street analyst.

So Bridgerton fans have nothing to be too upset about. In fact, 2023 should be incredible for fans of the Shondaland romance. Not only will Bridgerton Season 3 give Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) the spotlight finally, but we’re also supposed to get Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story at some point this year.

Bridgerton will go on without the Duke and Daphne. It’ll be just fine.
