Sorry, Yellowstone fans, but it looks like John Dutton really is leaving the ranch. After weeks of speculation, sources close to production told Entertainment Tonight that series star Kevin Costner will not be returning to the Western drama after the show’s fifth season.

The news comes on the heels of rumors claiming there’s “friction” between Costner and showrunner Taylor Sheridan after sources alleged that the latter’s “God complex” is to blame for massive production delays.

According to ET, there is still no update as to when the cast is set to return to filming for the second half of Season 5. While some attributed the delays to Costner’s refusal to commit to the production schedule, his attorney slammed the accusations as an “absolute lie.”

After The New York Post reported that Yellowstone would end with its fifth season last month, sources told The Daily Mail that Costner believed the show was “headed in a direction that was not in line with their initial vision.” And when he raised his concerns to the higher-ups, he was allegedly told that he “should just stick to acting.”

Meanwhile, Paramount President Chris McCarthy recently confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the spinoff series starring Matthew McConaughey will still be moving forward.

The reports of Costner’s departure come one day after the actor’s wife of 18 years, Christine Costner, filed for divorce.

“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” his rep told ET. “We ask that his, Christine’s and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”
