‘Bridgerton’ Season 3 Teases Loads of Colin and Penelope Drama

Bridgerton Season 3 might be the Netflix series most exciting season yet, due to the fact that the central storyline will focus on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and the relationship he has with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), also known as noted gossip Lady Whistledown.

There are two burning questions we’ve been asking ever since we learned that Penelope will be the focal point of the new season. First, how will Lady Whistledown objectively handle her editorial coverage now that she’s both source and subject? (And okay, part two to that, how will her relationship with her BFF Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), change now that Eloise knows her identity?)

But the real question on all of our minds is, “Will Penelope ever forgive Colin for the thoughtless comments he made about her to his friends?” If you’ll recall, Colin told his friends he “would never dream of courting Penelope Featherington,” at the end of season two, which Penelope, who has been in love with Colin since forever, overheard and caused her to rethink her longtime crush. While we’ve opined that Colin’s callous comments have made his a true villain of the show, Newton himself has said that he thinks Colin will come to realize how cruel he sounded in that moment in season three. “I don’t think he’s a vindictive person. I’m sure he will know at some point that she knows what he said, and I think it will kill him,” Newton has said.

In a series of first-look photos released by Netflix this week, the window into season three has been opened a bit more, helping us imagine what’s going on within the ton.

In an interview published earlier this month, Coughlan said that Colin’s behavior at the end of season two will definitely change the pair’s dynamic this season. “I’m interested to see where we find her when the season opens and how her relationship with Colin has shifted in a massive way. When someone says something like that about you, loudly, and humiliates you, it’s going to have such an effect,” she says. Looking at the photos from season three, it seems like Penelope might be on the road to forgiveness. Look at that eye contact!

Season three of Bridgerton will be based on the fourth book of the Julia Quinn Bridgerton novels, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. There is no confirmed premiere date yet for the new season.
