Bowen Yang is an artist who would die for his art. Unwillingly, that is. On a recent episode of his Las Culturistas podcast, Yang revealed to his co-host Matt Rogers that while he was filming an episode of Awkwafina is Nora From Queens for Comedy Central in Iceland, a horse he was riding became so spooked that he was nearly bucked off of it and he “almost died.”

Yang was describing a Season 3 episode in which his character, Edmund, travels to Iceland with Nora (Awkwafina), in order to trace his roots.

“I almost died in Iceland!” Yang told Rogers and their guest, Patrick Rogers, during the podcast while chatting about riding horses on camera.

While filming a scene where Edmund is horseback riding, the crew utilized a drone, which spooked the animal. “[I’ve] ridden a horse for camera,” Yang told Rogers. “Guess what? This crew, and I love this crew, but this crew decided to have a drone, and of course the horse don’t know what the f— that is, and then I almost died.”

H added, “The drone…Even hundreds of yards away, these horses can clock. They were spooked and then I almost [fell off]…I almost got bucked, and there was part of me, though, that was like, ‘This is a good way to go.'”

“Chic way to die! ‘Bowen Yang was on-set in Iceland, he was thrown from a horse and passed,” Rogers riffed. That’s an obit headline I’d click.

Between this anecdote (glad you’re okay, Bowen!) and Jeremy Strong walking on to the Nora From Queens set in character as Kendall Roy, Yang really does have some of the best work stories.
